Mainz is a good city to stay if you plan to check out cities a long the Rhine. We took a train from Mainz to Rudesheim as a day trip. There is also Old Town in Mainz that has a lot of restaurants, shopping malls and a square.

"Seems like a newer area, close to other hotels and a shopping mall. Felt really safe although I did find it a bit far from transit. Spacious and clean room though I did have problem with the access key for the first few times trying to get into room."
