Notable for its riverfront, Vientiane features attractions such as Pha That Luang and Patuxay. The city has something for everyone including cafes along with sights like Lao International Trade Exhibition and Convention Center and Vientiane Center.
The quietest city I've been to in South East Asia but also the most walkable, friendliest and most convenient. Despite the laidback nature of the city there are still numerous great options for dining and sightseeing. One of my favourite places.

Cash is King. If you are a foreigner visiting Laos, you need the local currency to buy almost everything. I changed from USD at the airport. Make sure you have a Lao to English translator on your phone as well as English is limited in many times

Keep in mind that Laos is a communist country and subsequently a poorer country. Nice and friendly people. Be aware that vaping is illegal in Laos! - the police confiscated my vape unit at the airport. Visa at the airport very easy to obtain for $40

A smaller, laid back Asian city and it's economical. Great food, plenty to see and do, but as a tourist location in its own right (rather than a stopover point on the way to somewhere else) it has some work to do but it's emerging.

The country is opening up. It is a little like The Philippines in the 1970's. The people are very friendly and one can still detect a little Gallic influence

The city was fine. I was able to walk pretty much anywhere. I wanted to go disappointed with the two mall Parkson store were empty. It makes me sad so many abandoned buildings.

If the locals know you're a tourist, they will overcharge for the smallest thing. That's was the only downfall, otherwise, everything else was amazing.

I booked for 2 nights, but stayed for 9! There is so much to see and do!
"Stayed here to spend a night during a long layover. Not the most exciting location, but the hotwl was new, clean, and safe. The staff was professional and kind. "
"I just wanted to thank the nice young lady at reception who, when I rolled in looking disheveled and bone rattled from an overnight train from Bangkok allowed me to check in early. This sort of graciousness combined with a good, clean modern hotel makes customers come back. (I said I would leave a good review and here I am) Great Wi-Fi, excellent breakfast and a comfortable bed and room. My thanks - recommend. "
"Our first time in Vientiane was made most memorable by the team at Green Park Boutique Hotel. From our arrival to departure everyone went out of their way to make our stay as great as possible.
All the staff are very friendly and many had very good English which helped us with tips about the local area and answering queries about the Laos culture and cuisine. Special mention to our friend at breakfast, Puna, who was an inspiration in her hard working nature and desire to continue her education while working.
Very comfortable room and lovely pool area. By the time you finish a few laps someone from the restaurant will have delivered a complimentary cold water which is a nice touch after a hot day of exploring the city.
I would definitely recommend Green Park Boutique Hotel for a good base in Vientiane. It is close to two shopping malls with lots of food options and the central bus station, which we used to catch a local bus to Budha Park - great fun :)"
