It has been a few years between stays at this hotel and, whilst the look and feel of the hotel has been maintained to a high standard, the same cannot be said for the service.
Arriving early, our room was understandably not available. So, we went through the check-in process and left our luggage with the receptionist. Upon returning later, staff could not initially find our luggage and it took a while for them to be located. Furthermore, when completing the check-in process to collect our room key, the receptionist took a substantial amount of time, remaining silent throughout. Not until I asked if there was a problem did the receptionist state she was having problems finding our reservation, despite the fact we had gone though the check-in process earlier in the day. The whole process of collecting our luggage and being given our room key took nearly 15 minutes, with no explanation and no apology.
As the bedroom, the king room was a good size and the bed was comfortable, although we had to request additional pillows as there was only one per person in the room on our arrival. The en-suite was a very good size, however, the shower head was so low that as a 6ft man I had to crouch down to not hit my head on it. Also, the crazy position of the towel rail means you can reach towels from the shower.
Breakfast was very good with a wide range of choices and of a high standard.
