The place is really dated, needs redecorating and feels a bit 1970. Service was good and friendly. Everything worked (hot water etc) and towels clean. But the place needs investment overall and modern fittings

this hotel is a little surprise. Doesn’t look much from the outside and not helped by being next to a disused building. However, once you enter it is a very different experience. The hotel is lovely, well maintained and the staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. We had a family room which was very good, though could do with some better quality bed linen. However, it wasn’t bad at all and we had a pleasant nights sleep. Although we didn’t use it, the bar looked amazing and breakfast in the morning was lovely. Not 5* but given how much this hotel is, it far exceeds expectations. If in Newark and you need a hotel, don’t give it a second thought and book.

To be honest everything was no where close to my expectations. I have slept in some nice places before. I will be more careful when booking next time.

Value for money compared to others in Newark

The hotel was welcoming and it had been refreshed since my last visit. The room was clean and the food, both breakfast and evening meal was wholesome and value for money (although there was no marmalade at breakfast)! I couldn't get the required programmes to work on the TV but this didn't matter because I had my laptop. Overall, the hotel is value for money and I would recommend it.

Arriving from overseas on day and called ahead to request early check-in. Was declined. Eventually got into room 45 minutes before check-in officially opened. Overall the place had a grubby (seen better days) feel to it. Staff was friendly and location suited my purpose for two nights

Not well maintained. Not very clean. Room smelled like mold.

Never again

Oh dear. So outdated and the entire decor is old and tired. Grey net curtains and the Carpet needs a good clean!. We had a built in cupboard for a wardrobe which smelt damp so didnt use it. Big bathroom with an old corner shower cubicle with a manky old shower attachment. On arrival the first words spoken to me were "Name?" So i said hello!!. Breakfast was on preorder and unpleasant. Watery poached egg, burnt fried eggs. Overcooked beans. The most herby sausage ever with the most oniony hash brown ever so too many flavors on one plate. Whole place needs a complete makeover.

Bar well stocked, evening meal excellent

This was not a great experience and represented poor value for money. The hotel seems to be a converted Masonic Lodge and has been subdivided into 'hotel rooms.' The welcome was friendly enough but the room was dingy and tired given the price. The TV did not work initially and it took the porter 10-15 mins to sort it out. The mattress was old and uncomfortable and I would have thrown the pillows out if they had been mine. Later, when I ventured into the bathroom, I found that one of the two lights flickered with a strobing effect which gave the impression of a scene from a horror movie. By leaving it on I was thankful that it eventually failed completely. During the night a number of guests came in late slamming doors culminating in some revellers arriving back clearly drunk as they proceeded to run up and down the stairs laughing whilst banging the doors. That was at 2 30am, so it was not a restful night. I could not wait to leave and would not dream of returning.

Amazingly quirky place - great food, great service and a good place to stay

Within walking distance of the town centre. A bit dated, with creaky floorboards in the bedroom. My bed was very creaky too, and the mattress was uncomfortable - I could feel every spring. The shower door was difficult to close. The noise from the traffic in the road outside was very noisy - even throughout the night. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on that.

Overnight Stay.

Surrounding buildings poor condition, hotel for a 3* ok, staff helpful and friendly, room clean, comfortable bed, but no AC. or shaver socket in bathroom. Food ok and reasonably priced.

Old and in need of serious updating. Two bulbs broken, bed awkward to get in and out of. Bath leaking water. Hard towels. Dog excrement on door mat. Breakfast variety was good but slightly overcooked and mushrooms tasted strange. Otherwise staff were friendly and tried to put things right. Would have expected some form of compensation without the need for asking.

The check in staff were lovely and explained everything clearly, the room was ok other than the bedside light not working and the towel rail was hanging off.

2/10 Poor

It was our wedding night, we told the staff before hand, when it came to checking in the gentleman was lovely but we didn’t expect to be out in a small and dark room with no air con and no exciting arrival (we were stood in wedding dress and suit) no congratulations or anything. We just got shipped off to the room. We wasn’t shown where we was going a fellow customer had to show us as they were next door. We don’t expect a lot of course but a little something when being told on the phone that it was our wedding night would have been nice. We didn’t get spoken to on the way out we just checked out and went home. For the price for 1 night to have a “great experience” was a let down. For what we paid we thought we was going to get more and we was very disappointed. Again the gentleman was lovely who booked us in but the overall experience was disappointing especially for the money.
Whitney, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

The chap on shift in the evening when we checked in was excellently helpful. It was a very hot night, so upon request he very quickly arranged for 2 fans for the room. At breakfast, everything was neatly laid out, and anything that wasn't full was quickly topped up once we informed the staff. Beds were comfortable, shower was fine The only downside to the property is that it has a stale smell of smoke in the rooms (it's an old building, so the smoke is probably engrained in the brickwork) A note for the Hotel staff: If you get an air mist humidifier and leave it active for a few days, it will reduce the musty smoke smell.

There was some confusion regarding the “breakfasts included” part of my booking on arrival. Reception paperwork indicated “room only”. I was asked to provide evidence and it was only due to me forwarding a screenshot to my partner showing bed & breakfast included, that fortunately I was believed. We had to change rooms due to a damp, musty odour in the initial room but were offered an alternative, which was much better. Highly recommend the Gluten Free options at breakfast. Andrea & Roy went above and beyond. Thank you.

This is a nice clean and friendly hotel. Easy walking distance to the town and plenty of parking.

Just needs a good old update

Great location, hotel looks tired, but food and service was great tbh, doesn’t help with a derelict building and weird parking set up going on
