We paid for an ocean view room that came with either a king or twin bed. We were celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary so before we went I sent them a message asking if we could have the king bed with a great view of the ocean. To my surprise they put us in the most beautiful suite, a gesture that was kind and beautiful but not expected at all. Such a fun surprise and made for an amazing experience at the Cliff Bay hotel for our first time in Madeira.

Everything about the hotel is very stylish. The rooms are large and comfortable and have everything you need. At breakfast there is plenty of choice and plenty of helpful staff. Outside there are plenty of loungers and masses of space. Highly recommended.

Great location and views. Lovely breakfast and spacious bedrooms. Renovations work during our stay did produce noise disruption and reduced facilities which the hotel did try to minimise and I’m sure once completed will return the hotel to where it should be which is a quality 5 star hotel.

We were upgraded to an upper floor with funchal bay view. Excellent views from the room and great service from staff! Breakfast had a wide spread and was good. Take note that there are opening hours for the sea access level. The only downside was the rooms a little dated.

In my opinion the Hotel does not pay enough attention to guests using hand sanitisers etc. and allowing a vast number of guests in the The Rose Garden at breakfast time to pick up bread etc with their hands! Surely some signage requesting to use the sanitiser provided and not to pick up articles with their bare hand should be on display.
