Illegal tourist tax & poor English communication
Firstly, I was wrongly charged a tourist tax that, according to current regulations, should not have been applied. I thoroughly checked the rules, and my friends staying at nearby hotels were not asked to pay this tax either. This means the hotel staff collected a fee illegally. Unfortunately, it was impossible to address this issue because the staff did not speak English.
In general, the hotel experience was disappointing due to the staff's lack of basic English skills. The restaurant staff were just as unprepared — it felt like I was the first English-speaking guest they had ever encountered. They couldn’t even understand or respond to simple orders like “coffee,” and insisted on speaking only Spanish.
For a hotel that receives international guests, it would be highly beneficial if the staff learned at least basic English. It’s part of providing decent service to paying guests.
