10/10 Exceptional

Small but perfectly formed

I had a nice small room in the hotel, lots of shops in Newbury and lots of places to eat and drink, and a nice stroll to the racecourse.

10/10 Exceptional

We checked in late, and the staff were super friendly and helpful! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the dinners. The pub has such a cozy atmosphere, and the chef and waitress were amazing. Big thanks to the manager too for keeping a table for us without a booking — really appreciated! Overall, a lovely place with great service. We’re so glad we chose to stay here!

Good location in Newbury.

In an excellent location on the Market Place in Newbury. Ideally placed for visiting the canal and the town centre. The room was in a converted block at the back of the hotel and was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was cooked to order and very good. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is secure parking at the back of the hotel.
Iain, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

In general, ok, but the room is small and our window shade broke trying to close it and there was no one around to fix it, even at around 8:00pm. The location is very good.

8/10 Very good

I’ve stayed before and it’s usually good. This time there were a couple of things wrong - a blind that was broken and the shower was tepid. I mentioned it to the manager who said she’d get it fixed and will offer me a discount on my next stay.

Great place to stay, the staff was very accommodating when I had made a reservation error on my end but fit our family of three in. Ended up staying there twice at the beginning and end of our UK trip! will be back!

6/10 Good

Pleasant Hotel, thou our room was in the converted barn, hence water damage to the exterior door and wall. When entering room you had to walk through puddles to enter.
Denis, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

The property was once a lovely place to stay, as have stayed in the past... This time it was dirty, had to ask for extra towels and glasses, also had to ask for toilet roll, and asked for more coffee and tea as only x2 on arrival in room.... Asking staff for anything took at least an hour to receive.... Could do with staff who care about there jobs and where they work.
Nina, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Whole building is on a bit of slant which makes moving around your room interesting. Restaurant food was not good. Beer was warm. Hamburger was tasteless. Pancakes were hard to cut.
Larry, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

Stayed in the deluxe room, very spacious, clean and cosy! Nice little view over the Main Street (Babar room) - great location and free parking was a nice addition. The lamp table lamp needs a new bulb or changing though, it kept flickering! Otherwise, the stay was faultless

3-night trip

2/10 Poor

Very grubby

We booked a 2 night stay but only stopped 1 night due to the general grubbiness of both the room and the rest of the hotel The mattress was unbelievably uncomfortable and should be thrown away Breakfast was served luke warm and I could not believe it when I was told you have to pay for tea and coffee extra The whole experience was awful find somewhere else
Steven, 2-night trip

Nice hotel

Nice room, hotel in great location and free parking at the rear of the building. Arrival was a bit confusing as not sure how to get into the carpark then not clear where reception was or who was a member of staff. Arrived early but was given access to room which was nice. No one was serving at the bar at lunchtime and the ordering app wasn't working so we went for a drink nearby instead.
Bobbie, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The pub is lovely - excellent selection of drinks and the food was great. However, we did struggle a bit with the room. At first glance it looked fine, but the bed was quite hard and uncomfortable, and the radiator in the bathroom was set to maximum and we couldn't turn it down! We just closed the bathroom door so the whole room wouldn't heat up. Neither of us slept well however due to the tilt of the floor and the hard bed so I'm afraid to say we cut our visit short! We'll certainly be back to the pub for food and drinks though, can't fault that part!
