Comfortable stay - staff were lovely! It would have been nice to have been informed there was a festival on so the car park was out of use, prior to arrival, however overall a positive experience.

Property under construction so in 2-3 months the property will most likely be improved. Staff was great, location was perfect, and pub and garden is delightful. Great value and quaint town.

Hi, I had a spacious room, fab complimentary supplies, nice style of bathroom, plenty of space to put my belongings if I'd had more with me, there would have been plenty of room. Absolutely wonderful staff, went above and beyond and lovely to have the chance to pop downstairs and feel welcomed and safe moreover. I'll be coming back as soon as possible. Thank you

Property was well kept, nice and clean. It is a town centre location so was a bit noisy until 10pm but was quiet after that.

A very pleasant stay and a great Pride after party

I was greeted by a very friendly and helpful host who showed me to my room and told me about the events of the coming weekend. The pub website says that it can be noisy because they have late night events but up on the second (or was it third floor) it was actually fairly quiet even with the Pride after party going on after midnight. The pub has a small car park that was never full in the week I was there. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Ulverston and within easy walking distance of bus stops for trips to Coniston and Windermere as well as the railway station for trips along the coast. I think the only negative point is one that the Sun has in common with most other hotels, not enough teabags!

Absoloutely lovely central location. The staff on the bar were fab blokes (a young lad who’s name I didn’t catch and a chap I believe was called Richard). We had the chicken parmo share board and I could eat it again and again. Room was budget and basic but comfortable for a one night stay. Only issue was a leaky shower but again for one night not a problem and I have emailed the hotel directly so they can get it fixed. Beware of the one way system driving through the town square as it can make finding the car park difficult and it’s rather tight to get into! Overall a lovely stay and we’d stay again next time we’re up that way. Thanks Sun Inn 😊

Stayed for one night. We were warned and prepared for noise as they play live music until the early hours. However we were woken up early morning by strange scratching noises coming from overhead (top floor room). When I contacted the hotel they told me these were birds on the roof - I'm not so sure as it seemed to be coming from the loft space. We paid for a 'deluxe' room and there was lots of damp issues on the walls and ceilings. Generally felt dingy. Breakfast was tasty. Parking, whilst they warn is limited, was impossible as most of the car park is taken up with piles of garden furniture and a large gazebo. Disappointed given the price.

One night stopover

Staying for one night meant I wasn't looking for 5 star,The Sun is in the heart of the town, ideal for my needs. As expected its an old building with an old feel. Free parking was good, checking in at the bar wasn't a problem but some people might not like it. My room was on the top floor to mitigate noise from a very busy and noisy bar ,again it didn't bother me but some would be pretty upset I imagine. Food was good especially the breakfast, usually I get buffet style but this was fresh and excellent. Staff were attentive and came to check all was OK and any needs. Bargain price but I was aware of noise etc so have no complaints. All in all ,old, worn but huge bed, clean and I would stay again.

You get what you pay for

Cheap and cheerful but rooms very run down wallpaper peeling off walls old decor etc. Poor nights sleep due to very uncomfortable bed and single glazed sash window very noisy, fully understand they can’t change due to been listed but very noisy, especially when Tesco get a delivery at 5 in morning. Massive room but no where to work in room. Staff very friendly and great location

The staff were lovely . Friendly and helpful . The building is incredibly run down, the basic room we booked was very very basic, dusty and not very clean, also had a funny smell. only 2 sets of towels and 2 cups, there was 3 booked to stay . Asked for extra towel and it was dumped outside the door . Carpets have seen better days . Room was serviceable , but as mentioned not very clean . We was too tired to complain after travelling to Dave Day from down in West Sussex . Breakfast also wasnt good . Everything except the egg and bacon had been through the deep fat frier ! and a poor quality of ingredients . Coffee was luke warm. Staff were nice though and welcoming, good job guys and the notice of loud music was appreciated.

For what we paid for the room it was very spacious, clean and tidy and conveniently located for the purpose of our stay. Yes it was noisy around but when you are stay in a town centre it is no different to any other town centre,it is as expected. That said, the bed was comfortable enough and with a pair of earplugs it was comfortable enough for our two day stayover. The staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The caffetiere with the coffee was like a full bag of coffee had been poured into it and was like rocket fuel, but we are coffee lovers and it was deliscious non the less. No amenities were provided, however, given the price I wouldnt expect this. Conveniently there is a tesco express right next door and boots a few doors down so easy to buy and travel essentials you have forgotten to pack. Room was nice and cool and had a TV with freeview and tea, coffee and hot chocolate available in the room which was a nice touch. The room could have done with a minor lick of paint along one wall, but as I said previously, for an inexpensive hotel compared to other places 3/4 times the price in the area, this was a great option. Accesibility may be hard for disabled/less able bodied people as lots of stairs but sure the hotel would provide a lower level floor if requested. Overall feel nice and quite homely. Would stay here again.

The check-in process was smooth, and the staff were exceptionally helpful. They kindly accommodated our request to change rooms when we expressed concerns about the one initially assigned to us. However, the rooms themselves are quite outdated and in need of significant refurbishment. Our initial room had a couple of issues: it was Room 13, which we preferred to avoid, and the shower was leaking, causing a persistent dripping noise even when turned off. The room we were moved to seemed fine at first, but we soon discovered that flushing the toilet triggered a loud, tornado-like noise. We could also hear the plumbing from the rooms above and below, making it unpleasant whenever anyone else flushed. Unfortunately, these issues made our stay uncomfortable, and we decided to check out a night earlier than planned, even though we were unable to receive a refund for that night. We understand that the hotel is situated above a pub, which can naturally lead to some noise, and we appreciate that this is reflected in the room rates. However, being woken up by a loud party on our floor at 2:30 AM was beyond what we expected. While we're not opposed to a lively atmosphere, our main goal was to explore the Lake District, not to be disturbed in the middle of the night.

The room carpet and bedding was clean but the walls were marked, the door frame looked as though the door had been kicked in at some point. The handrails on the stairs were sticky and the hallways looked grim. Breakfast was a bit dismal for a continental brmreakfast and the croissants were not fresh Staff were friendly and helpful offering to take bags up the stairs. Had we know how far up the room was we'd have accepted the offer. Free parking was available at the rear of rhe hotel and it was perfectly placed for an event at the coronation hall. Adequate accommodation for one night. But wouldn't have wanted to be there any longer and would ask for a lower level room if booking again.
