What an amazing, unique property with bags of character, we stayed in the Langdale suite which was ideal as a dog friendly room. Greg on reception was very helpful and knowledgeable, and a lovely welcome at breakfast from James. Highly recommended for a quiet escape from busy lives..

8/10 Very good

weekend stay at Holbeck Ghyll

The hotel is in a beautiful spot overlooking Lake Windermere and very peaceful. The breakfast was very good with a lot of choice and the cooked dishes were well presented. We had an evening meal which was a bit pricey but good quality food. We were in a lodge which was comfortable and warm but a few things need attention. The bathroom fan was not working for our entire stay and the washbasin had a huge crack in it.

Hotel changed my room to a lodge due to health reasons as a last minute. Couldnt have been any more greatful. The views and grounds were stunning. The staff where great and attentive. Cleaner added extra coffee and milk for 2nd night which was also a great and tidied the room to a high standard. Room was dated, however this added to the overall experience of peace and tranquilitiy which is what i was looking for. ****Highly recommend this hotel and will be visiting again ***

Good short stay near Windermere.

Lovely 4 night stay. Very welcoming staff, especially Tom. Cleaner was brilliant - spotted our 25th Wedding Anniversary cards (we hadn't mentioned it) and she sorted a bottle of champagne for when we got back to the room (thank you!) View was great, even when raining and grounds are lovely too.

Beautiful location with stunning views of Lake Windermere. The room and bathroom were pristine. The decor was in the arts and crafts style. Restaurant food was very good and there was an excellent choice of fruit and cereals for breakfast along with superbly cooked and flavoursome items. Staff were kind and courteous and the overall service was excellent. Highly recommended. Will certainly come again next time we’re in the late district.

6/10 Good

Holbeck Ghyll is is a lovely location and the main building is very picturesque. We stayed in one of the lodges which unfortunately was quite tired and in need a of a refresh. Water marks on the walls, a bit grubby, mould in the bathroom and a shower that did not drain well. The staff were very nice, the bed was comfortable and there was no noise when we stayed. Breakfast was okay and included in our stay. If the hotel was cheaper, we would have over looked all these things. Additionally, we only stayed two nights so did not really have a chance to give the staff any of this feedback directly.

6/10 Good

We stayed here just after Christmas and it feel the hotel was running on a reduced staffing who struggled to maintain the level of service required, e.g. Room not serviced as only one chambermaid on duty, gravy served with the steak instead of peppercorn sauce, and then told it was peppercorn......it had never seen a peppercorn! We stayed in room 2 which had not been refurbished and was defiantly not up to 4 Star aspiration. Dirty carpet, old non-functioning whirlpool bath, swags and tails curtains falling off the rail, chipped and bashed furniture. On the website you will see the new refurbished rooms which look great (and probably one that the reviewer from the Telegraph stayed!), but not all rooms are like that. But the pricing does not reflect that and we were charged full rate for a sub-standard room. The building is lovely and has great Arts & Crafts features, and the location is wonderful, but the Christmas staffing and room quality let it down.

8/10 Very good

Hotel is a fantastic location and looks amazing. Dig a bit deeper and it's a little tired. Our room was really nice, no complaints there, and the bed was really comfortable but the bathroom is very tired and desperately needs updating. There's some black mold, the bath is stained yellow, a badly damaged bath panel and a shower head fitting that was frankly not fit for purpose. Overall we enjoyed our stay, again, can't fault the staff, but there are areas to improve to really push the hotel to another level.

This place has a lot of potential as a classic country hotel. Check in wasn’t particularly welcoming and first impressions count. We were shown to our room and it was cold with no lights on. The receptionist who wasn’t friendly was shocked when I commented on that… Breakfast was slow but we were relaxed and enjoyed the views. Good quality though and plenty of options. Room 2 was lovely (once the heating and correct lighting had been turned on) with great views. Comfy bed and good linens. Bathroom was tired, with a whirlpool bath which didn’t work. Probably would return though!
