All potential visitors should read about Mata on their website- it is not your everyday hotel. The rooms are (nicely) converted shipping containers as shown. They are smaller than your average hotel room. Great for sleeping and showering. The breakfast area/ room offers morning cereal, toast, waffles juices and coffee. It is self -serve. The coffee machine offers many coffee types as well as hot chocolate. It was delicious- above average. Note- this is self check-in and departure. Communication is by email. The property is gated. The grounds offer numerous sitting areas, many shaded. They are well maintained. The pool area is pleasant and has seating as well as shaded hammocks.

Fun, pretty place. Nicely decorated. Because it's made out of shipping containers the rooms are a bit snug. Breakfast offerings are basic. Worked well for an overnight in transit. Not sure how it would work for a longer stay but it's fun.

Overall a nice place to stay. The room and facilities are clean and well maintained. Be aware that the rooms are storage containers so they are tiny (may be better for 1 person or 2 smaller people), not well ventilated (the sheets and all of our clothing was slightly damp the whole time), and not well insulated so you can here other guests if they are loud. If you are not looking for all the frills and just want a nice clean space to sleep so you can explore the island and local beaches, then this is a fairly good choice.

The staff on the grounds are incredibly warm and friendly. Yes the rooms are small (be sure you are comfortable with you’re comfortable with your friend/partner), but it is built on an ecologically friendly model from containers and locally owned. There are some issues with humidity as its located in/next to the rainforest, but that’s to be expected

Such a great experience! The rooms are quite small, but it gave the exact rainforest stay vibes I was looking for! The breakfast room was a great bonus - it even had bug spray and sunscreen! The grounds were clean. We loved looking for coqui frogs at night! Absolutely recommend!!

Grounds were beautiful. Guests should know this is an extremely small room. Too small for our taste. If you have more than one suit case you will be cramped. Room was humid, muggy, and musty. Ac helped but has too get real cold to get moisture out of air. Breakfast is limited too fruit, toast, and waffles.

Hotels.com took us to wrong address in dangerous area. Room entry code didn't work. Had to call the service twice. Unmanned facility. Tiny rooms, tiny shower. Property gate didn't always close. Noisy because rooms are so tightly packed together.

I highly recommend staying at this place if you would like to submerge yourself in the sounds of the jungle! The bedroom I rented was petite, but was efficiently built and thought out to make the most out of the space. It had a balcony with a gorgeous view of the forest. The bed was comfortable and the room had a mini fridge. The pool and lounging areas were neat and comfortable. The breakfast room featured a self-serve breakfast and snacks throughout the day, which was convenient, but if you are looking for a nutritious and delicious breakfast you will need to eat out. The staff was prompt with their responses when I contacted them through WhatsApp. Even their welcome message thoroughly had all the information we needed to access the property.

The room was in great condition and it is good if you just plan on sleeping and showering there. It was smaller than expected. When you walk in it’s just a bed in the middle of the room and a bathroom to the left. Super small shower. The breakfast was just crackers and peanut butter jelly sandwiches. Didn’t even use the pool, felt a little deceived by the advertisement. Overall it was a peaceful experience and great if you don’t plan on using the amenities.
