Excellent location, great staff, great dinner and breakfast. Could use an exhaust in the bathroom and there were no handles in the bath which I think is dangerous but these are nitpicks.

The room was lovely and the breakfasts were absolute fantastic! We were able to walk along the water to downtown easily and I could run along the water into the park and all around Coimbra. The only hiccup we experienced was that they decided to clean both pools at the same time on Monday morning (when our daughter had been looking forward to finally spending the day at the pool, after our “boring” touring all weekend), but it looked like someone else got upset about that and alerted a manager, because the cleaning promptly stopped and the kids were able to play! (Which we appreciated very much!). Cleaning of the pool after hours sounds like a good idea to me, in general.

This hotel is beautiful like the pictures, but the buffet is overpriced. My travel companions loved the themed buffet nights, but I ordered from the menu (which was limited). The AC would have to be reset by the front desk everytime we removed the key from the power slot and one night several rooms lost power for an unknown reason... so I woke up to no AC and I had to get dressed for my conference by cell phone flash light.... When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told that she was not there... no apology, explanation, or offer to make amends for the inconvenience! The room was ALWAY cleaned excellently! The AC was very cold and the remote only worked sometimes so I had to call the front desk often for them to fix it. But they did not alway answer the phone? I am not sure why, but I had a hard time reaching any services... room service, the spa, the front desk. No one consistently answered their extension. I stayed here with 14 students and 4 coworkers so we had like 10 rooms but we experienced similar issues. The spa was very reasonably priced. I recommend using the steam room, sauna, hot tub, and indoor pool... by 8p because they literally asked me to leave the pool at 8p (even though the front desk guy said that the pool closed at 9p). Different people give you different information. For example, the bartender told us that we had to leave the lobby tables because we had outside food. When I asked at the front desk, they said we could our food anywhere!

Deceiving as the hotel itself looks nice. The rooms are filthy. Smells of stale cigarette smoke and keep your shoes on as the carpet looks like it’s been trapping filth since the 70’s. The shower doesn’t drain properly and splashes water all over the bathroom floor. The beds are uncomfortable and worn. Using the pool requires you to purchase a swimming cap and they’re still playing pandemic forcing you to book a 45min time slot. I’d strongly advise against anyone booking here. Advertised as a 4 star, but more like a 2 star at best.

Allergies beware

Very limited breakfast options for non dairy family (vegan) family. The staff just kept asking us about gluten free food. I even asked in Portuguese. They clearly have no training in vegan food which for a 4 star hotel is very poor. We nipped over the road to a local shop picked up bread, butter, milk and made our own breakfast in front of them. You have to work very hard to add milk into bread, why on earth make it this hard is beyond me.

We enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in a suite with the extra beds for our kids. It was clean and comfortable. The pool was great. 15 min walk to the old town of Coimbra was the only drawback. Évitez cet hôtel... J'avais envoyé un message pour savoir si la chambre twin pouvait être préparée en lit double comme nous le demandons dans d'autres hôtels. Je n'ai jamais reçu de réponse. A notre arrivée, rien n'avait été prévu. Nous avons donc eu une chambre twin et la réceptionniste n'avait pas d'autre disponibilité que de payer pour une chambre supérieure. Pour l'accès au sauna, hammam et piscine intérieure, il faut réserver son créneau de 45 minutes! Cet espace n'est pas en libre accès... Heureusement que j'ai posé la question à la réceptionniste à notre arrivée le soir même car la seule disponibilité était le le demain matin à 10h. Pour l'accès à la piscine intérieure et au jacuzzi, emmenez un bonnet de bain. Sinon il vous sera facturé 4€! Car obligatoire. Aucun de ces détails n'est précisé sur Hôtels.com. Enfin la chambre était vieillotte (moquette jaune moutarde et meubles marron foncé obsolètes), et les murs sont si fins qu'elle était très bruyante : au 1er étage, fenêtre simple donnant sur la rue glauque. Nous avons entendu les éboueurs à 6h30 du matin, nous avons entendu les gens parlant dans le couloir passant devant notre chambre. Et nous avons entendu les chasse d'eau des étages supérieurs la nuit et le bruit de l'eau qui coule de la douche des memes chambres le matin de bonne heure. Mauvaise expérience. Passamos quatro dias excelentes em Coimbra e a estadia no Vila Gale Coimbra foi primordial para que as lembranças dessa viagem fossem ainda mais especiais para a nossa familia. Pessoal atencioso, buffet de café da manhã perfeito, piscina deliciosa e no final de semana ainda teve animadores para que todos desfrutassem de um ambiente ainda mais alegre. O quarto e o banheiro limpos em todos os cantinhos e as camareiras sempre atenciosas e gentis.
