Nice place to stay

Perfect place to stop over prior to ferry or Chunnel crossing. Not too far to walk into town although it’s uphill all the way back. Friendly staff and very welcoming.

8/10 Very good

Had a twin bed room with my daughter for 2 nights. Room and beds were ok and in a quiet area apart from a few other guests who were quite noisy. Bit disappointed that the kitchen was not in use as we had a very long journey. Staff were very nice and helpful

End of an era at the Castle Hotel

Hotel was in the last few days of ownership before handover to new owners. Old owners were pleasant enough, but I felt we got the minimum acceptable service. We had stayed twice before, but it made no difference. Minimum acceptable service means Average Star Marking.

Property in poor repair and gardens overgrown and not looked after Food very basic The bar shut at 20.30hrs after the locals left, asked to have our drinks in our bedroom and made feel uncomfortable until we finished our drink

Fine but noisy

Arrived to find there was no food available at the hotel. Nothing to communicate this beforehand. There was also no WiFi and no communication about this beforehand either Macerator in a few of the rooms too so super noisy not just ours but everyone else's at all hours especially with the early start we had the morning afterwards

A super two day break away.

This small hotel is clean and friendly. The food is all freshly prepared and cooked for each order. It was very tasty and well presented. Owners and staff are friendly and welcoming. They also welcome, for a small charge, well behaved dogs which is great if you own a pet that you cannot leave at home with someone else. Our little dog loved the area and there was a nice walk close by.

Very tired, needs some tlc

The hotel is very tired, it needs a lick of paint everywhere. All of the staff kept saying how busy they were but the hotel didn't look busy at all. The beds were uncomfortable, the shower is tiny and the bed for my daughter had no headboard. We were asked if we wanted breakfast, I said I don't know yet and I was told that I needed to make a decision straight away.

6/10 Good

A two night stay away. The room was a nice size. The carpark is shared with village, so the first night we had to park on the road. The checking in times are strict, as the bar/ pub closes.

A poor start to our holiday

I need to start with the fact that the property has only been taken over in the past week but they did said they had managed to clean the room Arriving at 6.30pm we were told that there was no kitchen service, no chef and they could get us a continental style breakfast in the morning if we chose. Asking about eating that evening they said most places closed at 4,5 and 6 on a Sunday and didn’t recommend anywhere to try Taken to the room via creaky and dusty corridors we entered our family room with en suite macerator plumbing The room had spiders in the corners, un ironed bedding, fusty towels, some of the ceiling hanging down and cobwebs on the wall ( the bed was very comfy) At 5am the room began to leak and dripped for 1 hour leaving a big water mark No- one could flush the toilet in the night as it made such a loud and long noise In the morning we tried to find someone to tell but only the cleaner could be found and she said she would tell the manager When we arrived they took our £110 payment and must have known some of these issues We wish the new owners well with their renovations but they should not have opened this early or if so, adjusted the price accordingly and thought of solutions to offer to solve guests problems ( they did say we could order a takeaway!) We will not be staying again or recommending it to anyone else - Sorry

Night away

We stayed here as we had a reservation at hide and fox resturant, perfect location as its almost opposite! Owners lovely, room was comfortable and clean, although a little dated and small. We only had a pre dinner drink in the pub so cant comment on the food as we opted to have brunch down in hythe the following morning. Room had tv with various channels, tea and coffee facilities, also shower gel and shampoo was provided in the shower room
