Great location But…

The location is really great, and the price is okay. However, the alarm went off in the middle of the night, and there were no staff members to guide us. Many guests went downstairs, but we didn’t see any staff around. In the end, we had to take the initiative to find someone and ask if it was safe. Only after confirming the situation did we return to our rooms. Throughout the entire process, and even until check-out the next day, we never received any apology or compensation.

This hotel has an excellent location- 5 mins.walking distance to central train station(plus L1 light rail station) and 2 mins.walking to L2,L3 light rail station. I was able to take light rail from Circular Quay to the hotel. I also take a train to International airport. A lots of restaurants around China Town (walking dist.) Very convenient ! Highly recommended ! It is an old building but it is clean , quiet .

We chose the Great Southern due to value for money and it's great location near to Central Station and Chinatown. The staff were very friendly and helpful, allowing us to check in early as soon as we arrived after our long flight from the UK. The public areas are historic and in good order, but the rooms could definitely do with an update. Our room was clean and all the amenities worked well (especially the air conditioning), but the net curtains were hanging off and the decor was very brown, drab and old fashioned. The bed was very comfy though and we got great sleep. The free WiFi worked well for us, although we occasionally had to reconnect. We were able to stream YouTube videos and upload photos with no issues. We had drinks in the bar which was lively and good value and ate once in the breakfast restaurant which was okay, but nothing special. They could do with heating the plates to keep the hot food warm. All in all, we would stay here again for its location, friendly service and value.
