8/10 Very good

The hostel was nice, but the surrounding area didn’t feel super safe. I walked here during the day from the metro, but I wouldn’t walk here alone at night. The staff was very friendly and the facility was clean and felt secure.

Common bathrooms need to have some type of towels for guests to dry their hands. There's nothing in the bathrooms so you have to touch the doorknob with wet hands to get out.

Great NYC ambience, complete with graffiti. Very low-key with nice people. The subway is within easy walking distance. There's a very definite urban edge, though, so this is not for people looking for a garden in the city. I'll definitely recommend it to friends!

Seasoned traveler with gratitude on decades of art/music professional life travel; and someone with accessible needs who travels with small jazz drumset and guitar. I despise airports and hotels and PREFER exclusively amtrak & hostels. NY Moore is run VERY well and is CLEAN, Legit, WONDERFUL STAFF all the way throughout, excellent guests & roommates over-all. My 2nd time there. Those that know also know there is EVERYTHING in that exact area. Exquisite location. For those that know Chicago fulton market west loop & east l.a. arts district etc etc, you'll be delighted as I was. This kind of exact place is my speed and need and breath of fresh air. Great 1st floor living room plus to hang/delightful. Great basement (clean, fun, quiet) with pool table couches games stereo, separate clean kitchen with multiple refrigerators) Murals everywhere. Enclosed center outside courtyard. Front and back staircases. VERY calm, no hostility or nit-picking. Lovely quick minimal room cleaning. Everyone keeps to themselves. All seem genuinely mindful while there. We're all running and hustling so its nice this place is here. Restrooms everywhere (major bonus when in need *anytime outside of ones room) *Accesible ramp ☆♡ that easily could be accessed from sidewalk front of building. No laundry but laundromat 10seconds around the corner. 247 market down the block. Pizza coffee places every direction Transit everywhere and close/Chicago and NY transportation/yesness say what you will.

10/10 Exceptional

It's a really cool building with nice common areas and a clean kitchen. The bathroom was super clean, the beds were comfortable and the rooms were cozy and secure with lockers, double door locks etc. It's located in a pretty industrial area in Bushwick, but it's a short walk to a great market, awesome restaurants, and fun things to do. The staff were very hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable - truly wonderful staff at the NY Moore Hostel. The only thing I'll mention is that if you're situated on the ground floor with your door facing the little courtyard, there were a ton of smokers during our stay and the smoke would get pulled in under our door and through the AC unit filling our room with the smell of cigarettes and pot. It was almost like the smokers were in our room with us as a result. I wasn't too bothered by it, but I was travelling with family members who would have preferred a more smoke-free experience. While I can't remember if there were regulations around smoking in the courtyard or not, it was never bothersome enough for us to go out and ask people to move and this isn't a knock against the hostel at all. It was specific to our situation and the layout of the building. Again - I can't remember if there was signage about smoking in the courtyard, but maybe the staff could consider putting up signs that prompt people to smoke in the front. Still a great stay and I would highly recommend this spot to anyone who enjoys hostels and wants an affordable stay! Ty!!

It's not very neat. But overall, it's nice to be quiet and sleep alone. The cleaning conditions are rather neat.
Daeil An, 3-night trip

6/10 Good

The room was clean. The staff were helpful. I had no idea that the rooms were co-ed. More than one person had trouble opening the bedroom door with the key. They say they have "free parking", but it is really only street parking, which was barely available.
Pep, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

I suppose the value was there, but this place had some shortcomings: 1. Noise. The doors and floor were both pretty noisy, which made it really easy to wake up your roommates or be woken up. My room also happened to be right off the entrance and people are NOT quiet when they're coming and going, even at night. I could hear all the conversation happening in the lobby. 2. The website says "daily housekeeping." That did NOT happen whatsoever. I stayed here 5 nights and only once was housekeeping done, and it was because a new roommate was starting their stay. 3. The lockers were a bit of a joke. BARELY big enough to cram my backpack in (after Tetris-ing some stuff around inside it), and the lockers weren't attached to anything! They were literally just sitting on the floor! Twice I was trying to pull my pack out of my locker and almost pulled the whole stack over! That also made them a lot noisier because they're constantly rocking and knocking into each other when you use them. 4. The bedding was not especially comfortable. The mattress cover felt like it was made of paper; extra noise and was uncomfortably warm every night (I run hot though, so your experience may differ). 5. The rooms are almost TOO spartan. I wear glasses and would have loved a shelf, a mantle, a stool, SOMETHING near my bed where I could set them. No such thing was present. I had to keep reminding myself that I was only paying ~$100/night for a bed in NYC. I'd stay here again, but only 2-3 nights max.

Good option for the price

The hostel is in a cool neighborhood with a lot of coffee shops and restaurants near by as well as access to the subway. The floors in our room hadn’t been cleaned well and we had quite a few gnats in our shower along with a couple of house centipedes while we stayed. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and it was a good option considering the price.

A comfortable hostel with free towels and coffee also affordable vending machines. The bathrooms are cleaned daily. Staff is helpful and friendly. I’ll be back again
