Genial pero sin ventanas

Nos llevamos una sorpresa, el hotel es mucho mejor de lo que pensábamos, bonito, moderno, nos atendieron genial, muy amables, muy cómodo, la ducha maravillosa, la cama muy cómoda, todo genial. Lo único malo es que la habitación no tenía ventanas, por lo que tenía muy mala ventilación y cuando volvíamos al hotel el ambiente de la habitación estaba muy cargado de estar todo el día cerrado.

Nice hotel for a few days stay. Opposite a petrol station so rather noisy sometimes. Our shower broke and wasn't fixed for our last 2 days sadly and there was a problem with the internet so we didn't have access to that in our room either! But it was clean, the breakfast was sufficient and the staff were lovely. Short (uphill) walk from a convenient Metro station. Surrounding area rather rundown.

I stayed in this property at the end of a 3-week trip through Europe. It was, by far, the most comfortable place I stayed. This might seem like a small thing, but the bed was SO comfy, and I had the best night's sleep of the whole trip. The staff at the front desk was super nice and helpful, especially Weslley, and the location was perfect- just outside the city center but easy to get to the touristy parts. I hope to come back soon!

Very smelly room

Room was very smelly like sewer, and the sheets hadn't been changed. We had to go down and ask for fresh sheets and my wife put them on. The elevators were a pain in the a$$. The outside door wouldn't close correctly so the elevator would not work. All in all, not good. We have stayed there before and it was OK, but not likely to go back.

Nice location, not so great policies

We had an ok stay at Dom Joao. It started rather stressful when I received a message stating that my reservation would be cancelled if I didn't call and settle payment ahead of time. I reached out several times to no answer. After contacting hotels.com they were able to get in contact with them but would not add me into the call to pay ahead of time. I was told that they would charge me when I arrived. Before I arrived, I was charged on the card on hold and was therefore charged a foreign transaction fee. I would have preferred to pay using my travel card when I arrived to avoid the fee. It would have been nice to be advised of this before I left on my trip to sort it all out instead of wasting so much time and stress during my trip. The walls are super thin so we heard all of neighbors coming and going and talking in the hallways. The shower is small but that's typical in Europe. The sliding glass door to the balcony did not lock and the tv does not have an option to sign into Netflix which would have been nice. It was a very convenient location for me though and the staff was very nice.

Heater/AC didn’t work, had to leave window open during night just to get fresh air, which may not have been safe. Blue light on AC flashed all night and couldn’t be stopped. Half the light bulbs didn’t work, the door looked like it had been kicked in and was literally repaired with paper, of which there was a peep hole which I had to tape over for privacy. When I tried to call reception the phone didn’t work!.
