Staff were very pleasant, efficient and helpful. Room was clean, warm, decor was a bit tired. Breakfast was freshly cooked, nice and hot.

8/10 Very good

The location of the hotel is outstanding on the cliff top overlooking the harbour and the sea. The rooms are comfortable. On our last stay however the breakfast buffet service was disappointing, with a lack of hot food for around 30 minutes

Olivia saved the day

Understaffed, slow service , Olivia seemed to be doing everything , she was excellent and made the rating good instead of poor.

Have to pay to park.

Really annoyed that you have to pay for parking in the hotels own car park. The staff are good but there are not enough of them.

Faded glory

We received a warm welcome from the person on reception. It was also very hot inside because all the radiators were on full blast in May. The hotel is impressive but showing signs of age with creaking floorboards and flaking paint. Breakfast was fine and the staff were nice. Parking is not free for guests but plenty of free spaces in town.

Friendly staff made our holiday

The young staff, most of them from the Stranraer area, could not have been friendlier, or prouder of their home town and surrounding area. At times there were signs that there were insufficient staff on duty, which caused delays at mealtimes and in the bar. The staff continued to do their very best; any resulting problems were due to this apparent lack of resources.

Excellent stay

We had a super stay at this hotel. We checked in with a lovely receptionist Sophie, who was was warm and friendly. Our room was super with a lovely four poster bed and superb view. I had phoned ahead a few days prior as it was a special occasion and we appreciated the room that was given to us . I am sure the receptionist had made sure we received the lovely room. We had dinner also in the hotel dining room and every member of staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming, dinner was also lovely. A very relaxing and super stay at this lovely hotel.
Susan, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The room was small but ok but the meal and breakfast service was totally abysmal I think 2 hours to serve a starter and main meal was far to long and no breakfast laid out till past 9.30.The restaurant wasn't even that busy
Christopher, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Unfortunately we had no hot water in the shower. The TV was not working properly and the windows were jammed shut. A member of staff pleasantly tried to sort the hot water issue but we only achieved a warm temperature. Maybe we got off to a bad start seeing all the signs instructing us to pay for car parking on arrival. This is not welcoming.

Not worth what they charge

Parking charge is a joke. Can park anywhere else in the area for free. They charge £6.50 per day so our overnight stay cost £16 as the site you need to use charge a service charge. We arrived at 6pm and left next morning at 11am. They are severely short staffed which made breakfast a very disappointing experience. Had to search for cutlery, take condiments off other tables, queue for plates and also queue and a lengthy wait for food to be replenished and it was only 9am. We had a superior room with sea view with a very impressive large window. Down side to this original feature was the wind howled through all night. The bed was comfortable and room was clean. Can’t say the same about all the tables in restaurant as there wasn’t enough staff to keep on top of it. Many guests were saying the same. We weren’t asked how our stay was at check out or I would have fed these observations back. On our arrival home, I contacted the hotel via 2 different platforms and we are oe on day 4 and still no response. Definitely not worth the money or the stress at breakfast.

Stayed here while on a motorcycle tour with the mrs…. After 10hr in the saddle it was just what we needed.. a smile and a key at check in then left to our own devices.. no hassle no problem parking the bike outside the doors.. just perfect and we will be back.

Lovely building up on the hill looking over Portpatrick. Rooms are a little tired and hope that the hotel is refurbished across through time. Good value for money.

Fab weekend in a special place

Beautiful hotel, but the rooms are so dated. Cold and in need of better cleaning.
Hayley, 1-night trip

10/10 Exceptional

We had a lovely stay, we had the superior room with sea view, if anything needs updated in the hotel it’s the windows we could feel a draft coming in, big thick curtains so we closed over the worst windows to keep the draft out, hotel lovely nice bar area and games room, we had dinner and it was lovely and so was the breakfast, I would stay here again lovely views from the room we had.
