"Did this hotel deserve 5 stars? No. Did it deserve 3 stars? Yes, but remember, 3 stars on Hotels.com is "OK". And for about $120 usd/night, on the beach, in PV, "OK" isn't bad. A lot of what frustrated me initially, was the contradictory info we received either through Hotels.com or at the property. When you check in, they give you a "Regulations and service time table" document. There is a lot of negative information, which I personally don't think is a good way to start a week at a hotel. The water was turned off once in the middle of the night and 3 times (that we noticed) during the day. One of these times was for 4 hours due to a broken pipe. We had to ask for someone to come up to the room with a bucket of water to flush the toilet. The maid was great until it was her day off and management evidently didn't think to cover her rooms. They had the room cleaned after we mentioned it. Hotels.com states there is no elevator but reviews mention 2 elevators with one of them broken. There are 2 elevators and one stopped working at least once/day. Hotels.com says there are 3 pools. However, one pool (adults only) is available for a 350p fee (good toward food/drink). The other pools are in a large patio area but there are only 6 umbrellas. Over the weekend we were there, you had to get out there early to snag an umbrella. So....not a bad hotel. Good location for the price. They need to update their Hotels.com info and their check-in document."

"Loved everything about this hotel. The entire staff made us feel like we were the only people staying at the hotel. They were so hospitable. The breakfast was the best in the city. The location was perfect with so many places to eat and shop within walking distance. A block from the Farmers market on Saturday. Can't say enough good things about the hotel and staff. "

"The hotel left much to be desired. Here are some of the issues: 1. Front desk was not welcoming. The individual did not introduce himself, did not smile, did not seem caring or considerate. He was preoccupied with his phone. 2. Room security for the door was average. Knob lock, deadbolt, and metal key. Knob was not high quality. 3. Room had few amenities. The bedroom had little in the way of available plugs for chargers. Temperature control for air-conditioning lacked strong power. No soap. Toilets flush had minimal strength. Beds were comfortable and clean - best feature! Blankets were there to use if needed. 4. Dual shower knobs were average, with lack of clear temperature control. One morning shower took five minutes to sufficiently heat up. 5. Check out was strange and embarrassing. We brought the key down to the front desk, and the desk attendant, without a word, got on a walkie talkie and asked a staff member to look at our room. We waited, feeling like potential criminals. The word came back on the walkie talkie and we were cleared to leave. It was the first smile we saw from him. 6. There is another aspect which is beyond the hotel's control, and tbat is simply that the location isn't fully a clean or safe area for families. It is more a working street, ten minutes walk from the beach, as well as some nice restaurants and clubs in the Zona Romantica. Construction across the street contributed to a sense of disorder."

"GO to Puerto Vallarta! We felt completely safe in the city (both a.m. and p.m.) during our stay. And we couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to stay than Casa Maria. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival. The staff have charming traditions for both welcoming and sending off their guests. Our room was pristine and spacious, with a little alcove to store our luggage and a large closet to hang our clothing. The bathroom has a large shower that never runs low on hot water. The colourful splashes in the room and on the hotel property were delightful. The room had both a ceiling fan and A/C to provide comfortable cooling. Casa Maria has an inner courtyard featuring a lovely pool (we saw staff cleaning the pool and testing the water each morning) and a bar. The daily complimentary breakfast sustained us as we took our morning walks along the Malecon (boardwalk). Drinks are served at the bar later in the day / evening; guests could chat and make new friends. Guests are sheltered from any street noise because all of the rooms are recessed behind the hotel office - we enjoyed very restful sleeps while staying there. We were treated to tapas and wine in El Cava Secreto, the hotel's new wine bar, on our first night. El Cava Secreto has a talented chef; we split several plates of delicious concoctions! We were thrilled with our choice to stay at Casa Maria and would like to send our love to Luis, for making us feel so warmly welcomed in Puerto Vallarta. We will be back! "
