"The hot pool never disappoints. Comfortable bed, in room mini fridge and microwave are welcome amenities. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Can't beat the drink specials and $1 shrimp at the Star Lounge. I hear there are new owners that are going to do some maintenance and renovations and I sure hope they keep the rad North Star vibes we've loved for years. "

"The staff wasnt very friendly or helpful. The beds were so hard most of us slept on the floor because it was more comfortable. Breakfast was mediocre and the hard boiled eggs were undercooked our first am (i noticed on her second egg that they still were gelly, slimey, gooey white) which made my daughter sick for her game. Soap dispenser was empty and the plug to one of our rooms didnt work. We dont do hotels often but have never been let down more. Should have gone to our best western. "

"Get a room on the second level. You can hear everyone walking and I swear jumping off the bed with their ski boots on. You won’t get sleep if you’re in the bottom level rooms…other than that it wasn’t bad. Breakfast was good and the staff is really friendly"

"This property is very dated, and it shows it, through flow around the three buildings to get to the amenities, parking areas, fixtures, appliances, dilapidated exteriors, bathroom, and common spaces. These buildings are 45 years old and they wear it. The room was a fine space to spend a weekend, but a cheap, clunky, ugly portable 'closet' installed between the bedroom and living room in place of a wall interrupted the flow of the unit in a jarring manner. Extra blankets in said closet smelled dirty and unwashed. Please be aware the bedroom has no door, if that's important to you! Sufficient kitchen tools and pots and pans to cook a meal which was appreciated. Didn't receive any checkin instructions, had to reach out and wait to get the code, clunky process which required a 3rd party website. Water softener made the water taste salty and gross."

"The Shire is in a wonderful location and I would recommend for a short stay. They are in the midst of a renovation and the rooms and exterior are nice and well kept. My only issue was that the coffee bars were not well stocked all the time with the same variety and the ice machine was not well stocked as it ran out of water to produce ice during our 2 night stay. Otherwise, the place and location is wonderful."
