Among the most popular sites are the cool spring-fed pools of Tirta Empul Temple in central Bali and the hot springs of Toyabungkah that overlook the Caldera lake of Mount Batur. 1. Banjar Hot Springs

Banjar Hot Springs, also known as Air Panas Banjar, is around 3 miles south-west of Lovina Beach in Northern Bali. The hot water springs here are shared by the nearby Brahmavihara Arama Buddhist monastery. The Banjar complex comprises 4 main pool sections, with a restaurant overlooking the central bathing pool. The hot water springs provide a recreational and therapeutic experience, due to the water’s sulphuric content. This can be seen from the yellowish red sediment on the spouts and pool walls. 2. Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple

The Gunung Kawi Sebatu temple is one of the least visited Hindu temple complexes in Bali, yet it’s one of the most beautiful and tranquil. Dating back to the 11th century, it features verdant gardens, ponds filled with carp and blooming lotuses, and ancient shrines cut into the cliffside, surrounded by crystal clear pools fed by natural springs.

As one of the great Hindu holy-water temples of central Bali, Tirta Empul is a must-visit when you’re in the Ubud region. The temple’s main attraction that’s accessible to public visitors is a holy freshwater spring. Through the main gates, a vast walled courtyard welcomes you to the bathing pools with an array of 13 spouts.
You can also enjoy impressive gardens that surround the buildings. The temple complex was built around 960 AD and is close to the presidential palace, Istana Tampaksiring. Tirta Gangga is a beautiful spiritual retreat and public garden built in 1946, during the reign of the late raja of Karangasem. It features elegant water gardens with pools, ponds, statues, and fountains. The gardens are located in the foothills of Ababi village, around 46 miles east of Denpasar.
The nearby natural springs are located on higher ground to the right of the entrance under a large banyan tree. The water is considered holy by locals and is used during religious ceremonies. 5. Mount Batur Natural Hot Spring (Toya Bungkah)

Toya Bungkah is right beside Bali’s largest lake, the Mount Batur caldera, and is part of a collection of hot springs around this famous volcano. Getting there is a bumpy ride down to the crater, but at the bottom, you’re welcomed by soothing springs and pools. Batur natural hot spring is run by the local community with mountain treks and adventure tours on offer.
The mineral pools boast temperatures of up to 40°C, while there’s also a lakeside pier where you can take in the majestic beauty of the water with the peaks of Batur and Abang in the background. You’ll also find an onsite restaurant serving local cuisine and grilled freshwater fish.

Toya Devasya is a fully-fledged resort that makes good use of a hot spring on its own grounds. It’s next door to the Mount Batur Natural Hot Spring, with similar lakeside views of the Mount Batur caldera.
The camping resort’s hot water infinity pools let you soak and wade in healing water. It has a lakeside restaurant and bar serving refreshments on site, and a spa. The added amenities mean that Toya Devasya Spa is a little pricey compared to other hot springs in the area.

7. Banyuwedang Hot Spring

The Banyuwedang Hot Spring is midway along the route from Bali’s south to Singaraja in Northern Bali. You’ll find hot water pools with beautiful views over the bay of West Bali National Park. It’s also only a short hop away from the Mimpi Resort Menjangan.
The waters at Banyuwedang can reach up to 40°C and is known for its therapeutic properties, thanks to its mineral rich content. The pools here overlook the bay. Think of it as a natural infinity pool, surrounded by the dense mangrove forest of the national park. The nearby Mimpi Resort also has its own hot springs available at a higher price for non-staying guests.

This hot spring, referred to locally as Air Panas Angseri, is situated in the central highland Baturiti district of Tabanan, around 3 miles northeast of Batukaru Temple. The site is run locally by the Angseri village administration and has been developed into one of the region’s top attractions.
The site now houses proper purpose-built pools, a canteen, changing rooms, and free onsite parking. The entry fee lets you access and enjoy the main hot-water swimming pool. Private, walled pools accommodating groups of up to 5 members are also available to rent for 30 minutes.

Belulang Hot Spring is tucked well away from the crowds in the village of Mengesta in Tabanan, around 6 miles from the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces. Surrounded by a gorgeous expanse of rice fields, the hot springs of Belulang are part of a small village temple by the name Pura Batu Panes.
The water here is uniquely high in sulfuric content, but without the whiffs that you would usually encounter at sulfuric hot springs. The spring is run by the local village administration and attracts mostly locals. It’s a great place to visit if you’re looking to escape the crowds of tourists and discover a more authentic side of Bali.

The Penatahan Kaja hot spring is part of a group of natural springs around the village of Penebel. Known by locals as Yeh Panes, or Air Panas Penatahan Kaja, it’s located around 8 miles from the main town of Tabanan and features wonderful panoramas of terraced rice fields.
The hot spring is next to the Yeh Ho river and has water high in minerals, with sulfuric content that is said to have curative properties by local villagers. This hot spring is a great layover if you’re traveling through the central highlands, particularly if you’re on the way to Batukaru Temple.
