Lovely getaway at Amanzi Hotel in Ventura

We loved our overnight stay at Amanzi Hotel. The location is very convenient: close to the freeway, safe, and within walking distance to Downtown Ventura and the Ventura Pier. We walked everywhere from the hotel. The staff member that helped us was very nice and we had a great parking spot (free of charge). The hotel is very modern and clean, and our room was quite spacious and the bed was comfortable. We slept very well the night we stayed! The breakfast buffet had a nice wide variety of options and were pretty delicious. Will stay here again when we come back! Thank you!

Nice hotel, but poor response to power outage!

Amanzi Hotel had an extended power outage (due to a neighborhood problem with SoCal Edison) from about 10:15PM-11:30PM Friday evening and again about 2AM-5PM Saturday (over 16 hours total). Although this was not their fault, there was no light, no heat, no hot water, no room phone, and no elevator. The emergency hallway lights ran out of power after several hours, too. We give them credit for cooking a hot breakfast using the unaffected gas stove, but the canned juice and muddy coffee were substandard. The front desk said that these outages "don't happen too often" and had no info about how long we would be without power. They could have had an emergency generator, or at least should have distributed small lights and information flyers under the doors, etc. to help the situation. Also, the spa was roped off and unusable (separate from the power outage). We essentially lost one day of our weekend vacation due to poor sleep in a very cold room, dark nighttime trips to the bathroom, and no hot water for a morning shower. Amanzi should have offered a partial refund or a voucher for a future stay.

This hotel says all non-smoking rooms. Our room had a distinct smell of cigarette smoke, which seemed to be embedded everywhere. It was difficult to sleep because the room felt so toxic. The carpets were dirty in the hallway and outside the elevator. This entire hotel felt dirty everywhere we walked. The TV had channel numbers on the Guide with no description of what actually was on the channel so that was frustrating as well. The TV indicated it was a smart TV and could link to your phone yet when we checked with the front desk, the front desk said, unless you have an HDMI cable you would not be able to access that feature so that was misleading as well because The TV stated it was capable for a wireless connection. This is an old hotel, which has been refurbished somewhat, but the rooms still have The old type wall furnace, which is noisy. There is no thermostat in the room on the wall. We would never stay here again. It felt creepy to us.

Would not stay again. Room was feet from the freeway. Room smelled very badly of weed. Asked front desk for air freshener and was brushed off as they didn’t care. Power went out at 11pm. No notification from front desk on what was happening or what to expect. Took a cold shower in the morning because power was still off and checked out a day early

Good find right next to the beach.

Very clean and comfortable. Service desk was polite and cheerful. Water wasn't quite hot enough, but worked and could hear freeway noise. Had a view of the ocean and pier. Breakfast was good and again the staff assisted to serve and were extremely friendly and polite. Would stay here again!
