We had a fantastic stay and couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome. Karen was such a lovely host, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The property has a wonderful old-world charm that creates a truly comforting and relaxing atmosphere. The views are absolutely amazing, and the beautiful garden is the perfect place to unwind and take in the surroundings. Breakfast was a real highlight – a delicious home-cooked feast! And the wonderful homemade biscuits on arrival were a lovely surprise! Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations, and we left feeling refreshed and well looked after. We're already looking at dates for our return visit and can't wait to come back. Highly recommended!

The lady owner was friendly and lovely from the moment I arrived. I was made to feel very welcome and was even treated to a plate of home made biscuits. The bed was comfy and I had an amazing night's sleep. Breakfast was served at a time that was convenient to me and everything was very fresh. The bread and jam were also home made. The property is in a very quiet location and in lovely gardens and provides a great place to stay during a visit to the lake district.

I hiked in from seathwaite, and was greeted with the most hospitable lady you could ask for after a long hike. Karan showed me to my room in a beautiful old farm house. If you want an escape from modern life and enjoy a simple retreat thats walking distance from keswick, braithwaite, and with bassentwaite lake pretty much on doorstep, Powter Howe is the place for you. I stayed an extra night than planned, as Powter Howe is a stunning oldy worldy get away, after a long day hiking, rambling, or cycling, sitting by a roaring open fire with a cuppa tea and homemade bakes, its a perfect end to an active day.

It was such a beautiful house and room. I loved the uniqueness and traditional style to it. The lady made me feel very welcome and was very helpful and friendly. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone who enjoys something different to a regular, boring hotel. Thank you so much

This was the most incredible stay I could have asked for! The breakfast was lovely, the home felt very cozy, and she had the fire lit every evening for a warm and welcoming sitting area. The only thing I would say is, as a Uni student with no car, plan with bus routes! They only come around every hour, and the BnB is a bit remote. A lovely view of the lake, the gardens, the chickens, and the neighbors sheep! I will absolutely come here again :)

A great place to stay

A beautiful location, very peaceful and a welcoming host who was very attentive. A lovely spacious bedroom, great bathroom. Breakfast was substantial and I enjoyed the short walk down to the lake, along with the gardens which added to the vibe, along with the hens! Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

This is a wonderful place to stay with a very warm welcome. It's a very comfortable family home with excellent views across Bassenthwaite Lake to Skiddaw, comfortable bed, a very filling full English breakfast (also with cereal and toast), very quiet, a short walk to the lake side, at the foot of Whinlatter Forest and close to a bus stop for the X5 to Keswick or the Workington direction. Parking is next to the house.
The view to Skiddaw (in the sunshine) from my room.

Karen is a brilliant hostess. She welcomes you into her beautiful historic, unbelievably cosy home, some of which dates back to the days of Tudor. The rooms are spotlessly clean and warm. The full English breakfast is substantial and very tasty. It is well posted, being only a 5 minute walk from the lakeside and a two minute walk from the bus stop to Keswick or Workington. I will definitely be going back.
