Great, centrally located property. A few small glitches, including no garbage pail or hairdryer in the room. Then a big glitch, overhead flooding in the bathroom requiring I changed rooms 😱 however everything was handled quickly and seamlessly by the gracious staff.

It was really convenient to have coded entry. The area felt safe and had lots going on. The room was small though and I found it odd that the entire bathroom was just frosted glass. Would be okay if it was a single or a couple staying but probably not ideal for friends. Had a slight issue with the tub on the last morning but I used the app chat function and they were very friendly and responsive.

There was no hot water in our room, after coming back at 10:30 pm when all we wanted to do was shower and go to bed, we waited over an hour for someone to come after being told 20 minutes. I was given different directions and confirmations than what was actually provided, no one on site.

Location was close to certain to harbor, walking 20 minutes ti museums. Grocery and Starbucks close. It’s a noisy area, construction going on..air conditioning didn’t work for a few days and difficult to use AC controls. Showers have no doors, toilet doors hard to open. The manager was very kind and helpful and worked with us to try to make our stay more comfortable.

Bathroom door was way too heavy. I’m a big guy, so I could not imagine how someone elderly or disabled would get into the bathroom. Shower curtain didn’t cover the whole shower, bathroom floor got soaked. Received messages from the hotel in the middle of the night making it hard to sleep. Windows did nothing to curb the noise. Had to check multiple times that there wasn’t an open window to explain the amount of noise in the room.

Very clean and convenient accommodation. The communication with the staffs was a bit difficult since there were not any staffs staying and no reception there. They offer the online 24/7 communication, but seems like those online staffs are not familiar with the neighborhood, so that they gave us wrong informations several times. No-contact check in / out was convenient, but we felt unsafe to type the passcode at the entrance of the building which located to the public road and probably people behind us could see the code. Same code was used for the opening the door at our unit, so means if someone want to sneak into the unit, it would be possible. That process supposed to be cut off if I could use the Bluetooth of my phone, and the App said it’s set up perfectly, but unfortunately the Bluetooth system didn’t work. Hope they’ll improve their system.

Disappointing Customer Service at Sonder

I recently stayed at Sonder The Slate and can only give it a 1-star review. The overall stay was just okay and definitely not worth the price due to their abhorrent customer service. Upon arrival, my booked loft room wasn't available, and they moved me to a basic room. I contacted support through the chat function on their app. When I explained, this was not the room that I booked and would like to be put in the room I booked, she stated she wasn't able to do that. When I then asked to be compensated for the price difference, the agent insisted that they were the same price, so they wouldn't have provide me with any refund. I had to prove otherwise with receipts, as I had booked a coworker into one of their regular room for the same days. Only then did she change her tune and admit their was a price difference but refused to reimburse me because she said, and I quote "it wasn’t that much of a difference." Frustrated, I requested to cancel and get a refund to find another place to stay, to which she said no, I had to stay in that room. Eventually, I called customer service and spoke to a nice gentleman on the phone, and thankfully, the new agent immediately apologized and agreed to fully reimburse me due to their error and the unavailability of the loft room I originally booked. While the stay was manageable, the initial customer service experience left a horrible taste. I won't be returning, nor will I book my colleagues or recommend this place to anyone in the future

This is a boutique hotel where there are no people working. I booked this hotel with Expedia, and thank God I did so. I had a booking for this hotel 2 months in advance. I pre checked into this hotel 24 hours in advance, on line. I had to supply all personal information (D/L, credit card) to do so, with facial pictures with side views uploaded into their system. I was on my flight from Calgary to Toronto when an email was sent by Expedia. My room was canceled by the Hotel. Expedia made at least 2 attempts to get in touch with me. The hotel....nothing. No phone call. When I arrived, the Sonder The Slate emailed me...I was canceled. No reason. It was almost sent as if by a lawyer, and not implying any liability to them. I had to scramble with a series of calls to Expedia to find me a room. Expedia was AMAZING with their response, albeit I had to make a few calls. I was upgraded. And, I sure hope that Sonder The Slate was back charged for the significant delta in cost. I had no increase in my cost, fortunately, for this late minute, rack rate location of new accommodation. Why did Sonder The Slate cancel me? There was no emergency. My counterpart who did not pre register for the room did have a stay there. There was no hotel emergency. He had to wait 4 hours till a real person arrived at the hotel. I will never stay at a Sonder hotel. This is what happens at a "high tech business model" hotel where you people are not the core of your business.
