I have never done this before. The proximity of the hotel to MSU was wonderful and the parking was wonderful, but that is the only positive comment I have regarding this hotel. It was filthy and in desperate need of renovation. What was worse was that part of my extended family stayed at the hotel with us and their room smelled so bad that I gagged when I went in. We could not make any changes as we were there for a graduation from MSU on 05/02/2026 and we checked in at 11:00 p.m. We were very disappointed.

I had a paid reservation two weeks in advance of my arrival at the hotel. When I did arrive yesterday, I was told that my room was sold and not available. I was further told that it was graduation and first come first serve. Having a paid reservation at this hotel means nothing. I can neither say the hotel was good bad clean or dirty but what I can’t say is that it was ridiculous to travel from Chicago to East Lansing with a reservation paid two weeks in advance only to have somebody look me in the face and say, but we are overbooked. We don’t have a room for you. It was like a scene from Seinfeld. They know how to take the reservation. They just don’t know how to keep the reservation. Will never do business with this hotel chain ever again. The addage, “you get what pay for” was never so true. I forgot to mention that the receptionist kept saying, “we will refund your money without any type of fee being charged.” Any parents of the over 50,000 students at MSU, think twice before making a reservation at Red Roof Inn near the campus; you too might travel a long way only to discover that your paid reservation means nothing.

Terrible hotel to book Rooms smells so bad and I was freezing so bad their heat I think it doesn’t work! Also no soap which is way too bad also their blankets are not enough I had to cover my self in my clothes just to not be cold I went to many hotels but this one was so bad for me I don’t recommend them….

The room was clean, but the shampoo had soap in it, the exact same as the body wash. There was a lot of activity at night with various arguments and slamming doors. I was near the university, so expected some of this. In the morning there was a giant pile of groceries in the parking lot and more people arguing. 😳😞 I hope they were able to save their food. Otherwise, It was fine. I was just sleeping there.

The front desk staff were kind and helpful, no complaints with them, I know there's only so much they can do. The first room I was in was horrific. Filthy and smelled SO bad. I was going to suck it up and stay in the room anyway, but then found the toilet didn't work. Front desk helped me swap rooms. Second room smelled much better, but was also extremely filthy. This was my second bad experience with this location, I will not be returning.

Room had a very strong smell of smoke, sheets had stains, comforters were ripped, floor was dirty, there was a hole in the wall, and the TV flickered on and off and did not work. There were people in the office trying to get refunds on their rooms. Need I say more…
