My family booked an 8 night stay at this hotel. We booked 6 months in advance based on all the great reviews, amenities and proximity to our family. It was by far the best fit for our needs in San Diego over Christmas. One week prior to our trip, I called the hotel to confirm the details of our room. I was reassured that indeed we had a suite and it would be ready when we arrived. 24 hours before we were due to fly out, the hotel called us and cancelled. They offered to rebook us elsewhere and give us $50 for our troubles. (The total cost was going to be $3000. $50??) After hours and hours and a half dozen phone calls, we ended up in another Sonesta hotel at a discounted rate. It was adequate but I am still angry about how it happened. We were told it was due to maintenance issues. More likely, it was an overbooking. Regardless, the situation caused extensive stress for our family. Beware to anyone who feels confident they have a reservation.
