4* experience in a 3* location at a 5* price
Not a bad hotel. Staff are helpful and courteous, rooms are comfortable if a little small and the roof terrace and reception areas have a lovely view.
However, the hotel is located in a pretty unpleasant location. It’s on a busy intersection, next to a McDonald’s and multiple other cheap fast-food venues, casinos and tacky shops. Taxis can’t reach the front of the hotel so you have to march through a litter strewn street to get to the entrance. At night it’s busy and noisy with lots of drunk people hanging around outside the hotel. The rooms are well insulated for sound but it’s impossible not to be slightly disturbed by the noise outside if you’re a light sleeper.
The breakfast seemed good at first but was underwhelming. Lots of choice, but nothing was actually good to eat. Lots of industrial pastries. Eggs were ordered a la carte, fine, but the portions were laughably small when they arrived… like two bites of scrambled egg and half a cherry tomato… someone clearly protecting the margins. Coffee was from a machine and pretty dreadful, so if you want decent coffee you have to find a spot nearby.
Overall, it’s an ok hotel as long as you manage your expectations which you shouldn’t really have to do when spending £500 a room a night.
