Wonderful stay at Ava Resort

We had an amazing stay at Ava Resort Cancun with our family of four, traveling alongside other families—and it couldn’t have been more perfect for all ages! This brand-new resort is massive, modern, and beautifully designed with everything you could want for a stress-free vacation. The amenities were top-notch, from the pools and water activities to the relaxing lounges and family-friendly spaces. Our kids were fully entertained every day thanks to the fantastic kids’ and teen clubs, plus the daily obstacle course at the pool became a highlight of the trip! Food and drink were excellent across the board, with plenty of variety and great quality. Black Iron was a standout—easily our favorite dining experience of the trip. Pro tip: book it early! What truly made the trip special was the staff—warm, helpful, and always going the extra mile to make sure we felt welcome. Can’t wait to return!

If the weather isn't nice, be prepared to make the most of the trip on your own! To be fair, the weather is clearly not in their control, but I feel some of the rules/guidelines need to be changed. It was raining and windy 3 out of the 4 days we were there. Being from a cold climate we braved the pool and often were the only ones out there. Our family was excited to go on the obstacle course on AVA Bay. We went to sign up and were told you can't go on it when it is raining. Its in the water! The whole thing is wet and as you go on and off of it you are clearly wet. They said it gets slippery which I feel is the point? You slip you land in the water! Anyway, it wasn't open for 3 of the 4 days because of scattered showers. On to the pool, after being turned down at AVA bay we got some chairs by the pool. As I mentioned it was raining on and off, but we were still enjoying the warmer weather. We asked if we could open an umbrella so our things would not get too wet when it did rain. We were told No because it was too windy. So, no obstacle course and no umbrellas? On to the room... We had the hot tub on the deck which saved us when it was unseasonably cold as there are no hot tubs by the pools. In my mind this is a big miss for them if they aren't going to open AVA bay or let you use umbrellas. On the second night the air wouldn't work and we did not sleep well. They fixed that quickly. The shower head was missing so when you turned it on it quickly flooded the bathroom.

The property is beautiful but is being poorly maintained and managed. Our sink would not drain in our bathroom. The elevators were nasty. There were cigarette butts on the pool deck. Also the immediate escort to the Legends timeshare when you purchase thru Expedia was very frustrating. We refused the push to go there and it still took awhile to get checked in. Also the continuous calls to try to get us to come to a timeshare meeting was annoying. There was zero consistency in what buffets and small snack areas were open- if a convention was there they catered to whatever area they were in.

Ava was great for us. We are a family of 4. 17 year old daughter and 11 year old son. We were there for 6 days. Taco stand was the best. The workers were so full of life. The pool service was great once we were established with server. Food at dinner was excellent. Service was awesome. Pool was cool but refreshing. The obstacle course was the kids go to everyday. Rooms were awesome view and clean. Room service was awesome and kids loved it. We will go back.

This was my second time at this resort. This was a last minute solo trip and I had a great time relaxing, reading, walking along the beach every morning, watching the sunrises, lounging in the pool. The only thing is you need to make your dinner reservations immediate upon checking in as they fill up fast. I was only able to get my desired restaurant one of the nights I was there. The other nights I did the Buffett (which was still good) and room service. I enjoyed my 90 minute massage so check out the spa if you want more relaxation. I plan to return later this year with some friends.

This incident left us deeply disappointed and overshadowed the otherwise positive aspects of our stay. We arrived at Veranda at our reserved time. Despite waiting for over ten minutes, no server approached us to provide water or menus. Initially, I assumed the restaurant was busy, but upon looking around, I noticed several empty tables and staff setting nearby tables. They showed no intention of serving us. After another few minutes, I called the hostess over to express my concern. She apologized and directed a nearby waiter to attend to us. The sever brought menus and took our order for pizza, seafood pasta, orange juice, and wine. However, after delivering our food, he made no further efforts to serve us. Throughout the meal, I noticed the waiter providing attentive service to caucasian and local guests while completely ignoring us. I tried to call him multiple times, even waving to get his attention, but he deliberately avoided eye contact. This behavior was humiliating, and it became evident that we were being discriminated against because of our ethnicity. Feeling frustrated and unwelcome, my family and I left the restaurant without finishing our meal. The distress from this incident disrupted our sleep, and the next day, our pre-booked a fishing trip was ruined as we felt unwell throughout.
