Top neighborhoods in Almeria

Almería Centro
Almería Centro captivates with its stunning 10th-century Alcazaba fortress and golden limestone cathedral. Narrow cobblestone streets wind past whitewashed buildings where wrought-iron balconies burst with colorful geraniums. This historic district offers a journey through Spain's rich past with Moorish influences evident at every turn. The vibrant Mercado Central and traditional tapas culture provide authentic flavors worth savoring. The neighborhood is wonderfully walkable, though medieval streets can challenge wheeled transport. Boutique hotels in converted palaces offer character-filled stays with rooftop fortress views. Beaches lie just a 10-minute stroll away, while city buses connect you to wider Almería with stops every few blocks.

Centro Histórico Almería
Centro Histórico Almería wraps you in centuries of Moorish and Spanish heritage at every turn. The honey-colored Alcazaba fortress watches over narrow cobblestone streets that lead to the Renaissance Cathedral with its impressive twin towers. You can spend hours wandering through pedestrian-only zones, discovering hidden courtyards with orange trees and ceramic tiles, or exploring the Archaeological Museum's Roman mosaics. Traditional tapas bars serve jamón ibérico and local specialties like gurullos pasta throughout the day. Boutique hotels in converted historic buildings offer intimate stays with interior courtyards. The neighborhood is perfectly walkable, with most attractions just minutes apart on foot and the Mediterranean beaches only a ten-minute stroll east.

El Zapillo
El Zapillo's wide golden beaches and palm-lined promenade create a seaside paradise in Almeria. Stroll along the Paseo Marítimo with Mediterranean waves on one side and charming white buildings on the other. Dip your toes in the calm waters, grab a spot at a beachfront chiringuito, or explore the authentic neighborhood plazas away from tourist crowds. Local tapas bars serve fresh seafood and gazpacho between traditional siesta hours. Accommodation options range from vacation rentals to small beach hotels with sea views. The flat terrain makes this area extremely walkable, with city buses connecting you to Almeria's center in minutes.

Retamar
Retamar delivers Mediterranean magic with golden beaches where you can splash in gentle waves or just soak up the Spanish sun. Beachfront promenades lead to El Toyo Beach and the spectacular Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park. Golfers can tee off at Alboran Golf while families gather at Plaza del Mar for a taste of coastal living. Beach bars serve up fresh seafood and paella with breathtaking sea views. Accommodations range from apartment rentals to small resort hotels, most featuring pools and ocean vistas. Getting around is easy with flat coastal terrain perfect for cycling, though a rental car opens up more adventures.

Nueva Andalucía
Nueva Andalucía offers a genuine peek into everyday Spanish life without tourist trappings. Quiet residential streets lined with white-washed buildings create an authentic backdrop for morning coffee rituals and evening strolls. The Almeria Archaeological Museum and Center Art Museum are nearby cultural gems worth exploring, while the neighborhood's relaxed pace invites you to live like a local. Family-run tapas bars serve traditional Andalusian fare at budget-friendly prices throughout the area. Accommodations consist mainly of affordable apartment rentals and guesthouses, perfect for travelers seeking value. The city center is just a pleasant 20-minute walk away, making Nueva Andalucía an ideal base for experiencing real Almeria.

Aire Hotel & Ancient Baths
"I enjoyed this stay very much. We went to the Ancient Baths twice - very nice. The plaza constitution is beautiful. Nice breakfast buffet served in the morning. There is no restaurant or bar but on the rooftop there is a very unique vending machine with snacks, water, soft drinks, beer wine cava and spirits. There is a mini fridge.in the room. Things missing include robe and slippers. These matter to me. And I don’t pack them."
Elba Almería Business & Convention Hotel
"Good place to stay. Is located in front of a shopping mall"
Barceló Cabo de Gata
"Rooms were cleaned every day, fresh towels. Staff always helpful"
Hotel La Perla
"Hotel propre, personnel acceuillant et professionnel, bon emplacement."
Exe Almería Centro
"Quality of experience is as expected within the budget. Good size clean rooms and bathrooms. Beds are a bit firm and the walls are paper thin (no sound insulation). Pool is nice as is the sunbed area although the lack of bar for drinks and snacks is a bit of a let down. Good location for exploring"
Hotel Costasol
"Excellent breakfast!. Staff very good !"
Hotel Sevilla
"I was very pleased with my accommodation. I chose a single room for myself which was on the second floor. Apart from a few creepy crawlers in my room, which I reported, the room was cleaned most days. The air con was lovely and I had more than enough space to put my clothes in. I will, hopefully stay here again as it's in a good location for my needs."
Hotel Vértice Índalo Almería
"Very impressed with the staff and the customer service of Jose who went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable,"
Hotel Catedral Almería
"La dame à la réception n’était pas très agréable. La ville est complètement morte à partir de 13h jusqu’à 18h"
