10/10 Exceptional

We likes the hotel history
Michael, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

We rented a room for Friday and Saturday night for an elk hunt. Friday was fine. Saturday my son got his truck stuck in the nearby mountains. After 5 hours of digging with the help of the Sheriffs Department, he was finally on the way back to the hotel around midnight. When he got there, the hotel was locked and he had to sleep in the truck in the parking lot. Checkout time was supposed to be 10am, but nobody was at the hotel to unlock the front door. He had to wait until after noon to get his belongings from the room and go home. Terrible experience and I plan to try and get my money back since the room was not available to stay in.

Such a beautiful and historic place. I plan on returning to stay again. Food is absolutely fantastic. Drinks are fantastic. The best part of oir stay was the staff. I'm horrible with names so i cant put them all here, but Kim, and Sam were amazing.

This property is historical and is under a total renovation. The bathrooms are small but the beds are very comfortable. There is a restaurant right in the motel. If you enjoy history it is worth a stop. It is a serve yourself breakfast in the motel lobby and minimal but that is the theme of the property. The staff is awesome and accommodating to their guests. It was a really fun experience.

Kim and Kristen were exceptionally hospitable and looked after me during my stay. They were also both very keen to share the history of the hotel and gave me a guided tour of the newly renovated rooms in the main hotel. If staying here I would recommend staying in the main hotel. My room attached ti the hotel was disappointing since it was well overdue restoration and not up to the standard of the main rooms. Overall I really enjoyed my stay here in this unique time capsule of old America and would recommend.

Charming bit of history

My stay was great. There was contactless check in. Before my arrival, I was texted my room number and the code to open the door. It was a hot summer day when I arrived. I open the door to find the air conditioner in the room had been turned on prior to my arrival and the room was refreshingly cool. The restaurant in the hotel is quaint. Dinner was amazing!

The room was small and ok. The AC unit in the window wasn't sealed well and the heater did not work so it was very cold the first night. We had to purchase a space heater. The faucet in the bathroom kept clogging and basically stayed full during the three day visit. We could hear everyone coming and going and the train was directly across the street and ran frequently. The mini fridge was loud too. We only got a couple towels and had to wait until noon each day to get anything bc no one was really there. Lastly, someone came in our room while we were in the bed and it scared the hell out of us. The patio area was cute and the actual hotel was eclectic but otherwise probably would not go back.

Staying at the Virginia Hotel in Wyoming was an unforgettable experience that truly captured the essence of the early 20th century. Built in 1911, this historic gem offers an authentic glimpse into a bygone era, with its beautifully preserved period décor. From the moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the hotel’s charm and character. The antique furnishings, vintage artifacts, and historic photographs created an atmosphere that felt like a living museum of local history. Our room continued this delightful theme, with period-appropriate furniture and thoughtful details that made it feel like we were living in a piece of history. The staff was warm and welcoming, eager to share stories about the hotel’s fascinating past. Their enthusiasm and knowledge added a deeply personal touch to our stay, making it even more memorable. The breakfast was another highlight—simple, delicious, and reminiscent of a homemade meal. It was the perfect way to start the day and added to the hotel’s inviting, homey atmosphere. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply seeking a unique and charming place to stay, the Virginia Hotel is a true treasure. Its blend of historical authenticity and Western charm makes it a must-visit destination in Wyoming.

The place was clean, but we had expected a better room. We had booked a deluxe room, but were told that there was a plumbing problem, and we were put in a small room with 1 double bed (ugh - we are both tall). The bed supports had rough wood sticking out, which we wrapped with a towel to keep from scraping our shins, and the train is across the street and was very loud in our room. The shower head was below shoulder height. The manager said she gave us a much lower rate, but we booked through Expedia, and had prepaid, so the lower rate went to Expedia. Expedia would not refund us until after talking to the hotel management, and they claimed that the hotel management had not responded to their requests. Bad experience all around.

2/10 Poor

I called the hotel and told them I was going to be late because my flight was delayed 2 and 1/2 hours. A staff member called me back and said she had to get a hold of her manager and she would call me back shortly. They took my money, and never returned my phone call. Essentially they totally ghosted me. Even a phone call telling me that the room wouldn't be available would have been vaguely within the bounds of common courtesy. Apparently, their customers are not worth a 30 second conversation.

Very Unique

This is a very unique place. The staff was super friendly and gave us a nice spiel on the background and the history of the Virginian when we arrived. I didn’t realize the bathroom was communal, we stayed in a suite so we had our own tub (no showers) but that was definitely a surprise. Each room has only a pedestal sink. I like that they kept it historically accurate but sharing a bath tub and toilet is not ideal. The room wasn’t super clean but I think that’s in part due to the age of the building. We had our 3 year old daughter with us and the door to our room didn’t lock which was a bit nerve wracking. There is also a train track directly across from the Virginian and there are trains that go by whistling each hour. 😬 The oddest part was when we got up in the morning we were the only people in the whole place. The front door was locked but there was not a soul in sight. We left the keys and took off leaving the front unlocked at around 9:15am and never saw anyone. It’s a cool historical hotel but definitely for a specific clientele.

Booked the Owen Wister suite through Expedia. They took my reservation and my money. Then got notified afterwards the suite and the whole historic hotel was unavailable. Since I booked through Expedia I could not get money back. Got stuck in a tny room with tiny beds in an old back they put rooms in. Awful experience. After almost thirty years I will never go to the Virginian again and I will never purchase anything through Expedia again.

We did not come in expecting much. We were truly wanting the authentic experience. There were a lot of books in the room, as there is no tv. But, surprisingly not a copy of the Virginian! It would be a small inexpensive touch, and would go a long way to make it special. It needs a lot, it has the history and the namesake. Hopefully the new owners can get it up and running. Have someone checking people in, make sure the room is secure before the guests arrive. I just hope that this place does not fade away, it needs a few small steps to start. If they never get any guests, I do not know how they will survive. We had the one room with a toilet and a bathtub (we chose not to use the tub...). We were the only ones there for the night. The entire building was empty. It was strange in the morning, leaving through the deserted restaurant (the only way in or out), less honest persons could have had a complementary piece of pie, or a free souvenir. The building has the bones, hopefully the new owners can address the holes in the bathroom floor soon, as well as the staffing issues. Strange that you can just wander to the room, which was completely open, with a window full open with no screen. I was surprised there were no critters or birds inside. I would have probably left if I was a single traveler, cause it felt unsecured. All in all, we are happy that we can say we stayed there, before it disappears. Best of Luck!
