We stayed two nights. Positive is that the hotel is a short walk to the entrance to the Cloud Forest Reserve. The negative (as we stayed when it was wet, cold, and windy) is that the bedroom (they give you a small heater but that is inadequate for the size of the room) and the dinning room were very cold. Dinner was poor quality. Breakfast had limited choice and portion size very small. It is remote from Monteverde so be prepared to spend money on taxis (if you don’t have your own transportation). The place is stuck in the 1970s. I wish I could give a better review - however, the hotel needs to invest to bring it up-to-date with competitors.

Room was clean , but very old . The hotel is just next to cloud forest , so gets very windy in the night. The road is dark and unpaved ,so drive in night is difficult. Breakfast is ok .

A lovely place to stay, which makes us want to return for a longer stay. Highly eco-conscious and eco-friendly the property is very well maintained and offers a sumptuous sit-down breakfast and good lunch, and dinner options at the restaurant. With wonderful views of the mountains and airy rooms, the Trapp lodge offered a unique experience. Since there are no elevators, one has to be prepared to go up the ramp for rooms in the higher elevations. Staff are friendly and since dinner is done by reservation, we were pleasantly surprised to receive a call asking if we would like a dinner reservation to be made. Highly recommend this place for a lovely, comfortable and quiet stay.

Excellent service at bar and restaurant. Spectacular food throughout the day. The grounds are beautiful. The reception staff was helpful with arranging activities. Clean room but coffee maker did not really work well -- weak coffee.

We could not have picked a better place to stay. It was adjacent to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve--we would just walk down the road for 5 minutes to get there. And the shuttle returning people from the Park to the parking lot passed right by the hotel and would always drop us off at the front, saving us the walk back. Breakfast was super, staff was so friendly and service so good. They had a sign board in reception listing all the activities in the area, such as horseback riding, zip lining, night hikes, etc, and they would arrange those for us, giving us ideas of the when the best times were. Jorge at reception planned all our activities--so efficient and had good insight. Great views from the room. Lovely sitting areas set up in the hotel--it was nice to sit in the garden surrounded by flowers with the rainforest in the background/

Great lodge, great location, great views

Great lodge near the Monte Verde Reserve. This is one of the lodges highest up the road, about 1 km below the reserve. Great views across the valley. Very nice lodge. Room was in great condition, beds are comfortable, everything was clean. Breakfast is very nice. Staff is very helpful.

Beautiful Stay in Monteverde

Aloha! We were kindly greeted by Esteban at the front desk. We booked a room with a mountain view and it did not disappoint. Our room was clean and comfortable. There was not a fridge in the room but the front desk will store them in the restaurant refrigerator if you would like. Though it was remotely located the place offered everything we needed including amazing food at the restaurant. We had breakfast daily, lunch and 2 dinner on 2 occasions. Our compliments to the chefs Patricia and Merlin. Jason and Alejandro provided excellent service. The hotel was within walking distance for ticket and transportation to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The hotel offers a shuttle to town every hour, until 1:30 pm, for $2 USD each. The last shuttle from town to the hotel is at 2 pm. The hotel can call a taxi, if needed, for $12 USD one way. In town you can find a taxi in front of the church. We highly recommend Trapp Family Hotel in Monteverde. Pura Vida! Mahalo! L and L Travels with Aloha
