Amazing stay in Fortaleza Suites

Overall great experience: we were able to drop the baggage prior to check-in and after check-out, the reserved apartment was spacious with high ceilings and well equipped kitchen, there's cold water and ice available downstairs. Cosy sofas snd arm chairs are available in the common area. The stuff is friendly. Great location near piers, San Sebastian fortress. Good WiFi quality

The overall vibe and location was great for old San Juan - the inside was amazing with a lofted (open air room) and 2 bedrooms. The only downside was the noise all night long (we stayed on a wednesday night) which made the lofted room pretty loud as a result. Also, didn't have access to the crib we requested when booking (my bad for not following up on this!) - but we made do as we were only staying for one night!

OK if you can tolerate the quirks

Fortaleza Suites is a somewhat quirky hotel, very conveniently located in Old San Juan. The key system was unusual, the room key was stored in a 4 digit lockbox outside the room. With no deadbolt on the door, I would be concerned about security except everyone must pass the front desk, and the outside door is locked much of the time. Our room had a refrigerator, and there is a common area with a kitchen with microwave, shared dishes, and tableware. Buying frozen dinners at a nearby supermercado and heating them worked well for us one night for dinner, rather than paying Old San Juan prices at a restaurant. Not so good, but tolerable, was the shortage of electric outlets. We had to unplug a dehumidifier to have a place to charge phones overnight. This issue is mitigated by outlets and a charging station in the common area. Marks against include the non-working TV, apparently the Dish box was out and couldn't be replaced in the three nights we were there. The plumbing was flaky. The shower worked at a light but ok pressure, with the temperature fluctuating whenever someone else used water. There was a clearly long standing leak from the pipe holding the shower head. And they asked that used toilet paper be disposed in a garbage can rather than the toilet, due to sensitive pipes. Worst was the lack of housekeeping service. Asked daily via text if we wanted service, we said no once and yes the next, but the room (including toilet paper bucket) was never cleaned.

The hotel was beautiful and centrally located. The only ‘downside’ was that the hotel says they have laundry available, but they really do not. The front desk person told us the washer and dryer are free to use, but it turns out the dryer does not work at all. Besides that we really enjoyed the stay.

Unfortunately not happy with my supposedly last day staying 3/26 through the next day. The electricity was gone around 5 the guy at the receptionist told me they were trying to fix it won't tale long. Two hours past and nothing I ask him what happen if the electricity doesn't come back. He say yes it will they working on it with some company. But funny

Good morning since I arrived everyone from the general manager Miguel, Paola and James the receptionist were so nice and welcoming. The place is very clean and cozy. I would definitely come back here the rooftop is very nice as well. Thank you from us.

Amazing location

terrible experience

The kitchen/coffee area is self-serve. Guests are to wash their own dishes and cutlery and replace them for the next guest. There was no dish soap in evidence so how can one know if the cup you want to use is clean? The staff also used this area for coffee and that was a bit odd. The "room" was so tiny there was hardly any room for suitcases and the room door was glass with wallpaper glued on the inside, but allowed all the light from the hallway to shine in. There was no place to charge our phones conveniently and the bed was on a homemade frame with 4x4 posts for legs and a 2x6 frame too high off the floor for comfortable access. The bathroom was O.K., although the toilet seat was loose.

Do not stay in room 14

This place was very cute and quaint. However, DO NOT stay in room 14, it is the size of a closet. 63 sq ft. It should say this in bold letters where you can see it when you book. There was also mold in the bathroom. We did have family and friends stay there also and their rooms were nice. Luggage had to stay in the shower as there was no place for it. The pic was taken from the hallway by our door.
