I was located on the ground floor,and parked my car right outside the room👍 It was a very cold night in Mackay,which is rare,and it got cold in my room,and there's no option for turning heat on,you can only control the flow of the air,you cannot adjust the temperature..Also,the free wifi code didnt work,I was either given the wrong number,or it dosnt work at all. But very nice,spacious rooms

Definitely stay again

The room was so clean and pleasant. Simple yet elegant for a family. My kids loved staying there. Having the beach so close made it even better! Food was delicious and loved the singer that was there on the Friday night! He played a few kid friendly songs like the wiggles and baby shark so my kids got to have a dance. It was amazing and we will definitely be staying there from now on when we visit Mackay :)

Sadly not a recommendation

Mackay is not the center of the world, and the city has clearly suffered after Covid with a lot of store closures etc. It also doesn’t have the big tourist streams as larger Australian cities have. Seeing the selection of hotels, we chose to stay at the Ocean International as it is situated beautifully at the beach with a wonderful garden. Given that the hotel is quite affordable, we did expected that the hotel would be somewhat in need of renovation and that we were not to expect a premium experience. Sadly we were very disappointed. Checking in to our room late in the evening, we found cockroaches crawling around everywhere. Even on the bed. The very sweet receptionist gave us a new room, but sadly also here we had small ant like bugs crawling around the room constantly. The cleaning of the rooms clearly is not good enough, however sweet the cleaning personnel is. Mackay is a humid rainforest area, and the hotel is situated at a beach next to a huge forest. It is to be expected that the owners have pest control there to keep the rooms clean and comfortable. This was really not the experience we had, and we were disappointed with our stay. We also had to proactively ask for a refund of the difference for the downgrade of rooms, which did not add positively to an already under par experience.

Enjoyable stay will definitely return

We stayed for New Year’s Eve so we didn’t have to drive. We were in a room on the 4th floor. The rooms are slightly outdated but still very comfortable. The shower is huge with a great amount of water flow. There is a small verandah and you can see the ocean . The bed was large and very comfortable. The room was clean & tidy. The restaurant downstairs serves amazing food and the staff are very friendly. I would recommend booking ahead as it is very popular. You can also order room service. There is a pool which we didn’t use. And an outdoor area where you can sit & drink cocktails from the bar. The bar has a great selection of drinks including cocktails and mocktails.
