"The room we stayed in had been upgraded was very nice clean well thought out amenities from electric kettle to tea biscuits. Would definitely recommend."
"Hotel is in desperate need of upgrade on all aspects. It is like a museum piece.. Evening meal was ok.. breakfast not so good... poor selection., cooked was luke warm at best.. unless you are looking for a real budget place - avoid..."
"Reception lady was cheerful and very helpful, explaining the various aspects of our stay with good clarity. The staff in the restaurant were also friendly and helpful, although the "Scots Bar" barman was probably one of the worst I've come across anywhere- not only did we wait to be served for over ten minutes while standing at the bar, he gave no eye contact, had no idea who was next to be served, but instead focused on serving the locals (who were effectively jumping the queue), he disappeared several times and on his return continued to only serve the locals. Anyone who was a guest of the hotel, including me, were ignored unless by some miracle he had no choice but to serve them. To be fair, there probably should have been two people serving in what was a busy bar. We eventually gave up and were served immediately in the main hotel bar without issue.
This was the only downside to what otherwise was a very enjoyable stay - it would be unfair to tarnish the hotel because of one individual's complete lack of professionalism"
"Have stayed at Ardoe a few times and the standard is always the same,,,excellent ,,from check in staff,,,housekeeping and restaurant ,,,love it there ,,,so much so that we go back in two weeks 😀"
"Great place for a one night stay. All very nice. Very quiet considering a busy bar downstairs. Only downside was outside door to bar bins was beneath our room and staff periodically emptied glass during late evening which was a bit loud"
"We stayed 2 nights and paid £114 per night for bed and breakfast in a Heritage room called Irvine. The soundproofing in the room was shocking with a loud humming noise coming from behind our bed and the noise of doors slamming and guests talking. When I reported this to receptionist she acknowledged that the humming noise was from the room next door’s plumbing. I was not offered a different room. We were visited by both a spider and cockroach in the bathroom.
I would therefore strongly recommend not to stay in the room called Irvine.
The breakfast was OK. The croissants and muffins were fresh but when they were gone they were gone. My advice is to go for breakfast early. The porridge from the menu was very good and I would recommend it.
IMO the property needs a lot of money spent on renovation and as an example the windows need replacing throughout the property.
IMO most of the younger staff need extra training to help them understand better customer service.
Overall our stay was a below average experience for a 4 star hotel, but reasonable value for money."
