Also, I do not speak Spanish or read it very well and everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful and patient with me. I had a horrible stay. The power went out for about 5 hrs and it was so hot and dark. They didn’t have a back-up generator. Didn’t feel safe. Thank god the power came back on late night and I was able to see with some the fan and ventilation. It was extremely noisy in that area. Alot of foot and car traffic. And the church across the street from us had an event with loud sound system. Although beautiful to see people in congregation and hear the music it was loud!

Cons: Expedia said Spanish/English language. NOBODY at the hotel speaks English. Pool hours close at 9pm. Pool was in operation till 11:00 pm on 3 of 6 nights and quite noisy as a result. Pets not allowed - yet noticed dog poop outside our door twice. After 6 days the room safe still not operational. While the staff was polite and friendly they didn’t seem overly concerned about much. It does not seem to them that they are running a hotel. Stay was OK but we expected much more given the price and the generally glowing reports.

I liked the cleanliness. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The amenities were in good condition. The building was safe. The service was excellent. The hotel in itself was excellent. The only things we didn't like was that the church in front of the hotel rang their bell very loudly, every day at 6:15, 6:30 and 6:45 in the morning. It woke us up every day at that time. We couldn't stay out late because we knew we would be awoken early in the morning. For this I would recommend to bring earplugs. The second thing that was just okay was the location. It was not close to the touristy locations. You either have to walk 20 minutes to get to Rinconada or take a cab to Zicatela or La Punta.

I read good reviews on Casa Mia, and not just from the Expedia website, hence the reason I stayed here. I upscaled my stay with the premium suite for the outstanding ocean view. What I didn't know from my research, was how intense the noise would be from across the street! The staff were friendly, and the hotel secure and clean. The hotel location was close to restaurants, Playa Principal and the Night Market. I am slightly under 6', but my feet would overhang on the bed. The shower water would take a few minutes to heat up, while the air conditioner and the fridge worked well. The view from the balcony was spectacular, and the hotel pool was refreshing. The noise prevent me from getting deep sleep. I am happy that my last two nights in Puerto Escondido were spent at another hotel in Rinconada where I had two super quiet nights that yielded in deep sleep.
