"Our stay at Ocean Riviera Paradise was a mixed experience. The staff was excellent—friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. A special thank you to our butler, Antonio, who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the biggest downside was the overwhelming sargassum. The beach was unusable during our visit, and the smell was noticeable throughout the resort. If we left the balcony door open, the odor would enter the room. To make matters worse, our Privilege room overlooked a huge pile of sargassum, which was very disappointing. Also, keep in mind that depending on where your room is you will have to use the shuttle service they provide which stop working at 11pm. Most of the resort closes at 11pm, had to walk 20 minutes from the lobby to the rooms because we stood for an activity and the shuttle service was over.
We also expected more from the Privilege experience, but it didn’t feel like it offered many meaningful extras. The room service menu lacked variety, we were limited to one order per day, and reaching room service by phone was nearly impossible. Additionally, despite being told there would be bars open after midnight, we couldn’t find any.
I understand the sargassum may be seasonal and outside the resort’s control, but it significantly impacted our vacation. The outstanding staff made the best of the situation, but overall the experience did not meet our expectations."
"Property grounds and rooms were beautiful and well maintained, but the pools were not. There was a visible dark ring around water line in all the pools due to lack of cleaning and maintenance. The check-in process was extremely slow."
Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort All Inclusive
8/10 Good
"Just got back from the El Cid Marina Beach. Pools were great. Room was clean. Staff helpful. Beware of the timeshare they try to sell. You will be stuck for 3 hours plus for a small promised gift. We loved our suite. Two separate rooms, one for my four teenage daughters and one for my husband and I. Three bathrooms and a huge kitchen table. Stove, microwave, etc. Great ocean view, however, every morning the trucks were out cleaning the sargassum. The smell was awful. The beach was unusable. It also didn't make sitting out on the balcony very enjoyable. The buffets were good. Just wish we could have gotten more restaurant reservations, and we tried getting these as soon as we checked in. The best restaurant to us was the Japanese. Excellent show and excellent food. If considering going to this chain in Puerto Morelos, I'd get the more upscale Ventus or Ventus Ha. Price is almost the same but more newer rooms. We did have a great family vacation. The only reason I may not return is how bad the sargassum looked and smelled."
Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen - Adults Only - All Inclusive
10/10 Excellent
"My husband and I went for our honeymoon. We had a wonderful time. The staff, food, drinks, and pool were all amazing. We definitely want to come back in the future!"
"This was my first time staying at a resort, and overall it was a positive experience. The staff were exceptionally friendly, courteous, and helpful throughout my stay. Concierge staff were always available, checked on planned activities, and provided useful information.
There were a few issues during the visit. The air conditioning in my original room was not working properly, but staff promptly resolved the problem by moving me to another room. Some staff provided unclear directions around the property, and there were occasional TV channel and internet connectivity issues, though I did not report those concerns. Restaurant reservations still involved waiting to be seated, and an out-of-service elevator created difficulties due to my leg and hip issues.
Rain made the marble floors slippery, although caution signs were posted. Some activities and a planned tour were canceled due to weather conditions. Parts of the property showed signs of wear and could benefit from repairs and better-marked trip hazards.
Despite these concerns, the outstanding service from the staff made the stay enjoyable. Overall, it was a good first resort experience."
