We were met with a situation where we needed quick accommodations because our prior hotel cancelled on us the morning we were traveling into the country. Staff was quick to assist us via WhatsApp in late check in information, willing to stay and meet us when we arrived, and even changed our dates (per our request) without penalty when our flights were delayed by 24 hours. The willingness to work with us, quick responses, and generosity of this hotel will never be lost on us.. thank you Zulu for saving our trip!

The room was absolutely beautiful and very clean. Although the toilet ran water all night and my key for the door was very finicky! And there was no one at the desk to help with either of these issues. I was also annoyed at the bar across the street that was very loud till 2am.

Check into to our room was easy and seamless, I am glad that I called ahead of time to make sure that our room was ready otherwise I don’t know if anyone would have been there to check us in when we arrived. We stayed for 5 nights and I only saw staff on property 3 times, but when we did they were always friendly. We opted not to have our room cleaned daily, but it would have been nice to have a broom in the room bc the bugs on the floor got pretty bad by the end of our stay despite me cleaning them up daily. It also took us a couple days to find a worker to refill our toilet paper, we had to borrow some from our friends that were staying at a different hotel! For the rate that we paid the hotel was great, and it’s located in an awesome location! I highly recommend Sol bakery around the corner, their iced chai was amazing!

Disappointed in how it went

The room was okay the people were nice but the whole stay was so noisy with loud parties going on upstairs in subrented space with bands and noise every night going till we’ll after midnight, funny after they tell us loud music not allowed after 10 pm, we won’t stay there again.

Loved the simple room and was perfect for our stay for a few days while visiting the beach, surfing, and enjoying the wonderful food. Our only gripe was the mattress wasn't our favorite but loved the close food options and the discounts that the hotel offered. The hotel felt close to everything in Tamarindo and we happily explored everywhere we could on foot. We liked that the 'Watchy' was free as well but tipped him anyway. Sol bakery was our favorite in the mornings, with good food, smoothies and coffee would couldn't ask for a better way to start our mornings. This place has great vibes and we would absolutely stay again.

Wow, what an amazing hotel. Me and my girlfriend spent 5 nights here and we truly regret it wasn’t LONGER. We had an amazing experience, Bali the receptionist is so fun, so nice and very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, big and particularly very cheap for an gorgeous hotel like that! 2 min to the beach, 0 min to restaurant, multiple tours you can choose (we did the catamaran and it was amazing)! Thanks for everything, I really recommend this hotel to anyone and of course there’s music at night (not bad at all) but it’s in every hotel in tamarindo. Thanks for everything!

I think everything was ok except that the property has receptionist service until 10pm, and after those hours they do not even have security. We were staying and last night we were concerned because a group of spanish people, that where causing problems in the middle of the night and we had to call police because no one in the hotel could help

They did not have the reserved room available and downgraded us. I had to pay a new charge and they never refunded the original charge for the bigger room.

Excellent staff! I do not usually write reviews. But the service provided me at The Zulu Surf Hotel was so outstanding that I wanted to write about it. Chris and Mattaes went above and beyond to help me out when I had a difficult time. When I needed assistance, they did not hesitate, and did everything they could to help me out. A 3rd associate, Andres, also provided excellent service. Though I did not see him as much due to the shift he worked, he was very courteous and very helpful. All 3 of these employees are outstanding when it comes to providing customer service. As I noted, they went above and beyond to help me out. But I also noticed they provided exemplary service to all of the guests that they interacted with. They always seemed enthusiastic about responding to any questions, needs, concerns or desires of the guests. From the moment I checked in to the moment I checked out, Chris, Mattaes and Adres were warm and welcoming, curtoeous and professional. Your employees are such an important asset to this hotel. Their personalities, their behavior, the way they treat people: all make the experience of staying at Zulu Surf a very positive and memorable one. It can be hard to find employees who are competent, you have 3 who excel. Whomever hired these people did an excellent job! Paul – U.S.

There is essentially no staff that works there, even during what they call lobby hours. There is a locked gate that controls entrance and exit from the lobby of the hotel. They give you one key so if there are 2 people staying in a room you have to come and go together. If someone takes the key to leave the hotel the other party is trapped in the hotel.
