Hotels in Midtown South

"Small niche hotel that is conveniently located to major subways, sights and dining. Staff was, fine, one in training who seemed very nervous and her trainer who was snippy and made me feel as though I was wasting her time by asking questions about the $600 non-disclosed deposit. And then charge of $5 per bag for storing our luggage, also non-disclosed. Because I had a group of 10 we were somehow charged per bag, when the people in front of us were not, seems questionable at best. Very comfortable and clean rooms- however due to the nature of the locks- keypads- they are more difficult to deal with than a keycard. The housekeeping also didn’t shut my door all the way and when I went to punch my keypad and the door was already open. Unsettling to say the least. Thankfully everything was there and no one was lying in wait for me at midnight when I returned to my room. A nice place, would consider staying again, maybe."

"Very clean rooms and lobby areas. Some staff were great but a few of the desk staff were very strict. There was an incident where I tried to return an iron and they looked at me like I had three eyes on my head. I thought I was being considerate but there was no thank you whatsoever."

"Hotel is worn down and no basic equipment like fridge, bedside table, charger, etc. Staff were friendly and efficient. "

"Only there for one night, but the room was clean, the staff was very friendly, and the elevator was quick. Very close to everything we needed. Our only complaint was that breakfast didn't start until 8am on Sunday morning and we had to catch a train."

"The location is great if you're looking for something close to Penn Station. It's a benny to have breakfast included. The breakfast selection was adequate. One thing we didn't like in the room was the fact there is no top sheet on the bed, just a duvet. The duvet is most likely not cleaned between guest stays. There's a thermostat in the room and when I told the front desk it wasn't controlling the room temp I was told there was a central control for all the rooms. Why would you put a thermostat in a room that doesn't control anything? Bizarre. Easy access to the subway."

"we had an awesome time at the Freehand. Close to restaurants, shops, and many attractions and the Underground railway. "

"Excellent location. Staff has to use sand elevators in this very busy hotel, which can clog the lobby/ elevators. Other than that was great "

"I was so pleasantly surprised by this hotel! It was actually QUIET for sleeping, a 3 min walk from the Empire State Building, and a 5 min walk from the subway. The staff were delightful; I got a free upgrade to a family suite. I'm not a city person but this hotel made me want to come back to NYC!"
