If you want a hotel experience or a quaint B & B experience like many in the East Coast of the USA, don't stop here. If you are looking for some seclusion, close area to the Volcano National Park and a place to rest your head for a couple of nights, this place should work for you. We did take the lava tube tour and appreciated it. I am sure this was much better then the tube with all the tourists in the VNP. As many reviews mention, there is not any place to store your items while you stay here, so plan on living out of your suitcase during your stay. It does get cold in the room, but there was a small heater in the room, we never plugged it in. There is a damp musty smell in the room, but I attribute that to the high humidity in the area. We found our room comfortable and fine for our 2 night stay. We did not find the owners very forthcoming with information or recommendations, but we were ok with the privacy and they were hospitable, but not talkative. Overall the place met our needs and I was not disappointed, it met our expectations. This was a fantastic place to stay during our trip to the Big Island! The lodge is comfy and rustic, with very close proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We were looking for a quiet, comfortable, convenient place to stay while in Volcano and this fits the bill, and then some, providing the most peaceful night's sleep of our trip. Dan and Shannon […] were gracious hosts and provided a very nice room, complete with an in room breakfast of yogurt, fresh muffins, oatmeal, juice, coffee/tea, and fruit. We were also able to take advantage of the lava tube tour the next morning, as well! Definitely not to be missed on your stay here, this lava tube is awesome, and Dan was a very knowledgable guide. He provided us with hard hats and flashlights for the tour and made sure to point out some really cool features of the lava tube. We did not get a chance to use the hot tub while we there, so we can't really review that, but it looked like it was in good shape. Great location in a beautiful setting, but that is where the good times end. The grounds are pretty much a dump. The office is virtually unmarked making arriving at night a challenge. The room smelled musty, which is somewhat understandable given it is in a rain forest, but nonetheless unpleasant. I was very excited to visit VNP and we planned to spend 2 days in the park. I wanted to find a B&B close to the Volcano and Aloha Crater Lodge is only a few minuted away, a very big plus. Unfortunately the accommodations were not very comfortable, rustic, and I felt too over priced!!! The room while clean, was not very comfortable, plastic yard chairs, […] TV only received a music channel, no light in the kitchen/bathroom area and the path to room could use some gravel to help with the mud. It was a little hard to locate the lodge keeper, who was very sweet. She brought us to our room and gave us a plate of burnt and stale baked goods, a basket of fruit for the next morning and a diluted pitcher of orange juice. I knew I would be hiking and chose the lodge because they advertised that they had a hot tub, they did not mention that the hot tub could only be accessed by climbing on a garden chair set by the side of the hot tub and then climbing over the edge to get in. This is more like a lodge, where some one has converted rooms of their house to guest rooms. Nothing too great, and not too bad either. They have some small breakfast available (muffins, coffee, juice), but there is no kitchen.

We stayed here just to visit Volcanoes National. All we were looking for was a clean bed and a hot shower. This place served the purpose. The added advantage was that they have a lava tube on the property which the owners love to show. This was better than the lava tube in the National Park.

These are really just a few rooms for rent, but they are great. Very charming... seems to be in a mountain cottage. Very romantic. Perfect place to stay for a night before going to Volcano NP. You will wake up and find yourself in the middle of a rainforest. Owners are nice and the stay includes a private tour of the lava tube under the property, which is better than the one in the park.

Very nice B&B and the hosts were great. They provided everything u might require in the room. The neighborhood is beautiful but very isolated. So you might not find any general stores/ gas stations open after 7pm. the highlight of the place is the lava tube tour that is included for all guests.

Aloha Crater Lodge was great for the location. The room was clean, and comfortable. The bathroom could have used more lighting, but otherwise, this was a perfect spot very close to the national park. The owners were also very nice and accomodating. They gave us a bit of extra time for check out, so that was very helpful.

The location of this small B & B hotel in the tropical rainforest is magical and its main asset. It is a few miles from the Volcano National Park, which was our main reason for going to that part of the Big Island, so was perfectly situated for our needs. Our room was quite spacious, though a bit cluttered, and had two double beds, a bathroom and a […] small kitchenette which didn't have a sink, so we couldn't wash up any of our dirty dishes after breakfast or a snack supper. We had to leave them for the owner to wash up the next day, which was a bit irritating, really. Some of the equipment, such as the fridge, had seen better days, and it would have created a better impression if the sheets had been ironed before putting them on the beds! There were loads of towels, though, and the owner's homemade banana bread was absolutely delicious. We had a meal at the Italian restaurant next door to the General store in Volcano Village which was really good, though a bit expensive. When we arrived our room had been double-booked. However Shannon,our host rang around and found other accommodation for us and arranged a full refund. We were very satisfied with our alternative accommodation.

Quirky is the word to describe this place. It's a B&B, but with self contained units and a continental breakfast provided for our own preparation and use. We stayed only one night, choosing it for its proximity to the Kilauea volcano. We were able to view both the lava flow and the caldera at night, and get back to our accommodation with ease.

A great little gem just a stone's throw from Volcano Natl Park. A tasty breakfast was provided in-room, providing flexible options for our family and its jet lag. The lava tube right on the property was far cooler than the highly manicured option in the park. Two thumbs up for awesome customer service all around.

We stayed at the Lodge for one night and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. It's nicely maintained and clean. The lodge is located in the middle of a rain forest which is pretty neat. It also comes with a tour of a lava tube that is better than the one in the park. Breakfast was very substantial and included fresh fruits, homemade banana bread, yogurt, […] juice and milk. The beds were comfortable. The home was built from the ground up by the owners and has its own quaint charm. There is a outdoor jacuzzi, which means you get to soak in the hot tub in the middle of the rain forest. Very close to the park which was nice. The females (wife,daughter,granddaughter) were a little in shock at first sight of this place. They were use to resort life in Kona.
