Old Port
Cobblestone streets, 19th-century brick buildings, and fishing piers define this district, offering boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Explore Post Office Park, Tommy's Park with its large mural, and stroll the Eastern Promenade Trail to East End Beach.

Downtown Portland
Downtown Portland enchants with historic cobblestone streets and a lively waterfront where lobster boats bob alongside ferry terminals. Art lovers can explore local galleries and the Portland Museum of Art, while foodies dive into fresh seafood and craft beer scenes. The charming brick buildings house boutique shops perfect for finding unique Maine-made treasures. Getting around is easy on foot with most attractions packed into a walkable core. Cozy boutique hotels occupy converted Victorian buildings, offering harbor views and local character. When night falls, live music spills from taverns while the salty harbor breeze carries the promise of tomorrow's adventures.

East End
Portland's East End combines coastal charm with neighborhood character along its stunning 2.1-mile Eastern Promenade trail. Panoramic views of Casco Bay's islands and lighthouses await as you stroll past locals enjoying picnics on grassy slopes. The historic Portland Observatory and Abyssinian Meeting House offer glimpses into the past, while tree-lined streets showcase Victorian homes. Artisanal coffee shops and craft breweries nestle between authentic neighborhood spots, perfect for refueling after waterfront walks. Most accommodations are boutique B&Bs in converted historic homes with personalized service. The area's excellent walkability and METRO bus connections make exploring easy, whether you're heading to East End Beach or venturing downtown.

West End
Distinguished by its well-preserved Victorian architecture, this downtown Portland neighborhood boasts the scenic Western Promenade park, offering views of the White Mountains, and several historic structures, such as the Gothic House and Morrill Mansion.

Portland and related destinations
Cobblestone streets wind between 19th-century brick buildings toward a working waterfront where fishermen unload the day's catch. Feast on lobster rolls at dockside shacks that make fast food chains seem like sad imposters. The Portland Museum of Art punches above its weight with an impressive collection. Lighthouses dot the coastline, particularly the photogenic Portland Head Light. Duck into the Old Port's independent shops where owners actually know their inventory. Merrill Auditorium hosts performances worth dressing up for, while State Theatre draws crowds for indie bands. Local chefs transform just-caught seafood into dishes that explain why food magazines can't stop writing about this place.

Hyatt Place Portland Downtown - Old Port Square
"Hotel itself was nice. However the area it is in constantly smelled of weed and Friday night was a bit loud due to a club across the street (rest of the nights were great). As someone who grew up in this area the homelessness and weed was a bit disappointing."
Fireside Inn & Suites Portland
"The Fireside Inn was an enjoyable stay for my family. We loved the heated outdoor pool. Parking was very convenient. The location was central to many areas. Staff were friendly and helpful. We would stay here again."
Inn at St John Portland In-Town
"loved the charm of the old building and the furnishings. Breakfast was very good with many options considering the limited space. glad we had a room on the 1st floor as it looked like it would have been hard for us at our age (72) to climb the stairs with luggage. parking was a challenge but your solution with using a nearby lot was great."
Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Maine
"Very convenient location."
Aloft by Marriott Portland Downtown Waterfront ME
"I stayed here in August of 2006, it’s right where you want to be in Old Port. It is a modern hotel so there is no door separating the shower from the bedroom. The toilet does have a sliding pocket door. It’s a great hotel, I’ll be back."
