Be fully informed: this hotel requires biometric (face geometry) and government issued ID upload to a third-party site to access your room code.
I wasn’t informed of this at booking. After receiving an email requesting a face scan and ID upload (after I booked) I contacted the hotel and was assured I could verify in person. However, weeks later upon arrival, I was told the system had changed days earlier and biometric upload was now mandatory with no alternative method to access the building and room code. . Onsite staff were kind, but senior management failed to inform booked guests of this policy change and left their staff with no options for remediation.
Had I known, I would’ve canceled within the permitted window and booked elsewhere where in-person verification is used. Being told on arrival that I had no other option was unacceptable.
Sonder's privacy notice claims data held by third-parties (Persona and Chekin) is deleted "promptly" or "two weeks after" the ID has been verified.
If you're comfortable sharing your biometrics with a third party, the room itself was spacious and condo-like (kitchen, dining area, etc.) and the facilities standard (e.g., gym).
